Maintenance Worker
Position: Maintenance Worker - Permanent part time .4 position
Position Hours and schedule are subject to rotation and to periodic review and / or adjustment.
Flexible to work (days, evenings, or nights)
Must be available to pick-up additional shifts and 24-Hour Emergencies Call Outs
Probation rate: $22.71
Regular Rate: $23.10
Duties:
- Work under the direction of the Director of Environmental Services and Maintenance
- Responsible to maintain the building and property, including general and emergency maintenance and repairs.
- Responsible for the preventive maintenance program to reduce the incidence of costly breakdown and safety issues.
- Understanding of building operations and mechanical systems (heating, cooling, water, alarm systems) to identify and arrange servicing and repairs.
Qualifications
- Grade 12
- Trade in carpentry, plumbing or electrical preferred.
- Criminal record check including vulnerable sector check.
- Valid Nova Scotia driver's license with a clear record
- Agreeable to contact references and to provide success background checks.
- Knowledge and demonstrated skill in basic electrical work.
- Knowledge of general and preventative maintenance procedures aimed at handling both building and grounds maintenance in a manner conductive to safe work practices.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in plumbing and pipe fitting.
- Demonstrated skills in basic carpentry, painting and dry wall repairs.
- Demonstrated ability to work in high places.
- Demonstrated ability to operate motorized shop tools and power equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to dismantle and repair engines and miscellaneous power equipment would be an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to operate snow blower and motorized lawn care equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to work in confined space.
- Must be able to lift and carry heavy objects, bend, reach and stand for long periods.
- Knowledge of relevant sections of WHMIS and Occupational Health And Safety Act pertaining to handling and storage of chemicals and safety of using equipment
- Ability to time manage.
- Good teamwork skills
