The Mission of St. John's Minor Baseball Association Inc. is to provide opportunities and exposure in youth baseball and instill teamwork, a sporting attitude, honesty, and integrity. Our baseball programs teach players to respect the game, work hard, and play hard. Through proper guidance and exemplary leadership from our Board of Directors, staff, coaches, and on field officials, our programs champion the virtues of character, courage and loyalty designed to develop not only superior athletes but also superior citizens.

The St. John's Minor Baseball Association (SJMBA) is seeking applications from individuals interested in assuming the role of Operations Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing various operational, administrative and financial activities to ensure efficient operations and timely communications with the membership. The Operations Manager will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations of our minor baseball programs. The level of commitment for this position varies greatly during the baseball season with a commitment of up to seven days a week during peak times. Regular evening and weekend work may also be required.

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Operations Manager will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • coordinating registration and preparing team rosters for all divisions in house league
  • coordinating all house league activities including game, tournament and special event scheduling and ensuring timely communication of same to members
  • preparing staff schedules and ensuring all time slots are filled including the reassignment of staff and/or the filling of last minute vacancies
  • ensuring staff are aware of their responsibilities and schedules
  • undertaking various financial tasks to support the work of the Secretary-Treasurer including:
    • downloading and reconciling monthly reports from the registration system with monthly bank reports;
    • reviewing bank statements and coding payments and revenues for entry to the general ledger;
    • preparing vendor invoices for payment and preparing payment requisitions;
    • preparing and tracking staff timesheets;
    • tracking and managing employment grant hours, fundraising accounts and any required per diem payments
  • coordinating the day-to-day operations of the SJMBA office
  • other related duties as required

The successful candidate will have:

  • strong interpersonal, communication, time management and organizational skills
  • significant operations and program administration experience, preferably in a sports environment
  • the ability to work independently and with minimum supervision
  • extensive supervisory experience including staff scheduling
  • significant financial management experience including experience with financial management systems
  • experience using various types of computer software and hardware
  • knowledge, experience and/or a sound understanding of baseball skills, programs and training as well as the activities and programs of the Association would be a definite asset; and
  • a degree in Sports Management, Business, Recreation, Education, Public Administration or other related field would be an asset.

Candidates who demonstrate other qualifications and/or experience may also be considered at the sole discretion of SJMBA.

A Code of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check will be required of the successful candidate.

This seasonal position will run from April 1 to September 30
