Permanent part-time: 60% (with opportunities for increased hours)

Villa Saint-Joseph du Lac, located in Yarmouth, NS, is home to 79 long-term care residents. We are a provincially funded, non-profit organization that provides 24/7 care. Villa Saint-Joseph has a strong interprofessional team and a new facility (opened in 2015) which allows us to promote a safe, home-like environment for our Resident and care partners.

This position is unionized (current classification is Activity Worker, with intention to change) and wages will reflect the CUPE Collective Agreement, as well as be eligible for benefits and pension.

Responsibilities

Recreation Programmer responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

· Plan and implement recreation services and interventions.

· Provide guidance and support to volunteers and students.

· Work independently and with the interprofessional team to provide the best level of care possible for our Residents.

· Complete required daily documentation and use the appropriate technology / applications.

· Must be flexible with hours of work depending on scheduled recreation programs.

Qualifications

The Recreation Programmer must have/be:

· Diploma or Degree in Therapeutic Recreation.

· Class 4 license (or willing to obtain as soon as possible).

· Current Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.

· Current certification with First Aid / CPR (or willing to obtain).

· Food Handlers' Safety Course (or willing to obtain).

· Able to meet the physical, mental and emotional demands of the job.

· Ability to follow Infection Control guidelines as needed (including wearing a mask for long periods of time).

· Leadership abilities and excellent communication skills.

· Fluent in English (French / French Acadian is an asset).

· Previous work with long-term care is an asset.
