Summer Student - Youth and Community Team Lead
The Town of Riverview is seeking candidates for the summer student position of "Youth and Community Team Lead" with the Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Relations from May 5th to August 22nd, 2025.
The purpose of this position is to lead the Community Events and Junior Leadership team and together plan, organize, schedule, promote and implement summer community events and youth programs.
Part I - Characteristic Duties / Responsibilities
- Lead the Community Events and Junior Leadership team and plan, organize, schedule, promote and implement the details of the summer community events and provide support and guidance as needed for the JL Program.
- Organize and operate events/programs within the budgeted funds and track finances for events.
- Design and facilitate all activities to be sensitive to the needs/abilities of the public/participants and meet safety requirements.
- Offer creative and unique ideas to enhance Community Events and Youth programs in Riverview and to engage the public and program participants.
- Lead, delegate tasks and provide clear directions to summer staff for their specific functions during Community Events and youth programs.
- Prepare and distribute promotional materials such as flyers and posters in the community and through the Town's channels (including Facebook and other social media) to increase awareness and engagement.
- Mentor and demonstrate day to day expectations for the Community Events Assistant and Junior Leadership team and provide immediate feedback, assistance and support.
- Design and facilitate presentation to summer staff regarding Community Events.
- Accurately complete all forms and reports including incident/accident reports, event reports and budget forms in a timely manner.
- Provide the above reports as well as a detailed report and detailed final inventory to the Community Recreation Coordinator (Youth).
- Adhere to the policies, practices and procedures of the Town of Riverview.
- Understand and explain the policies, practices and procedures of the Town of Riverview to the public.
- Always demonstrate and maintain a high standard of professional conduct.
- Establish and maintain a good relationship with event participants, the public, volunteers and co-workers.
- Use problem solving skills but seek assistance when necessary.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
Part II - Job Requirements:
- Be between 16 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period.
- Currently enrolled in post-secondary education and/or returning in the fall.
- Proof of valid New Brunswick Class 5 Driver's License.
- Proven leadership and supervisory roles through work experience, volunteer positions, membership in organizations, etc.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, web applications such as ZOOM and Go to Meetings, internet research and social media.
- Knowledge of Town of Riverview brand as well as an interest in graphic design would be an asset.
- Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent Teamwork and cooperation skills.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to effectively work with the public.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Familiarity with Town of Riverview policies, procedures, rules and regulations, an asset.
- Current NB Driver's Abstract, meeting Town's standards.
- Current Criminal Record Check, meeting Town's standards.
- Proof of Workplace First Aid and CPR/AED certification must be provided at least two weeks prior to the position start date.
Part III - Working Conditions:
- Required to some work evenings, weekends and Canada Day during the summer months.
- Required to work both indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to extreme heat conditions and sun exposure.
- Some travel may be required.
- Position is considered summer student employment with a defined term within the summer months.
- Required to work for the entire duration of the term of employment.
This is a Full-Time summer student position with a rate of pay of $19.35 for 35 hours per week.
