OUR ORGANIZATION

The Atlantic Collaborative on Injury Prevention (ACIP) facilitates collaboration in injury prevention and related public health initiatives among the governments and the non-government communities in the four Atlantic Provinces. The primary focus of ACIP is to provide Atlantic and interprovincial leadership in injury prevention through surveillance and research activities, policy and advocacy, networking and partnerships, and knowledge exchange.

SCOPE OF POSITION & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to a Board of Directors, comprising both government and non-government representatives from the four Atlantic Provinces, the Executive Director is responsible for the successful leadership and overall management and operations of the organization, according to the strategic direction and policies set by the board of directors. The successful applicant will be capable of working independently and have comprehensive knowledge and experience in health promotion and injury prevention, research, facilitation, policy and collaborating across sectors. The location of the Executive Director is flexible within Atlantic Canada.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operations including scheduling and facilitating meetings, preparing agendas and minutes, proposing topics for discussion/review, determining, and initiating follow-up actions, and signing all notes, agreements, contracts for services, and other documents made and entered into and on behalf of the organization;

· Develop and implement an annual work plan and develop resources to ensure the financial health of the organization, including preparation of an annual budget, monthly financial statements, and effective resource utilization;

· Work closely with and communicate effectively with the board of directors and committees, informing, assessing, and addressing issues that affect the organization;

· Identify and facilitate opportunities for collaboration to build the injury prevention community in Atlantic Canada;

· Serve as ACIP's primary spokesperson and establish and maintain relationships with the injury prevention community, funders, government agencies, organizations, and others as required to help achieve the mission of ACIP;

· Apply public health principles, theory, and research to assess and inform projects and action to prevent injuries;

· Identify and address gaps and emerging issues in injury prevention in Atlantic Canada;

· Manage various projects and initiatives, including a re-design of the organization's website and listserv, and monitor, evaluate and report on activities as required;

· Prepare various documents including funding proposals and agreements, policy analysis, annual reports, administrative policies, and procedures, briefing notes, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor's Degree in a health-related field

· 3 years of progressive experience

· An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

· Strong understanding of injury prevention and control, health promotion and population health, behaviour change and the social determinants of health

· Skills and experience in the areas of policy, advocacy, research, and surveillance

· Demonstrated skills in networking, partnerships, and knowledge exchange

· Proficiency in the core competencies for public health in Canada

· Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (written and verbal)

· Results oriented with excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

ASSETS:

· Master's degree in a health-related field

· Management experience in Strategic Planning

· Experience in budget preparation and management

· Competencies in other languages (French preferred)

· Salary Range $69,000 - $88,000 (Commensurate on experience)
