Burchell Wickwire Bryson LLP is a downtown Halifax, full service law firm, with more than 40 lawyers and more than 80 people. This makes us a relatively large Halifax law firm, and we take great pride in more than 100 years of providing top quality legal services and client satisfaction. The result has been a long list of loyal clients and dedicated professionals.

Working at Burchell Wickwire Bryson LLP is characterized by a fast-paced and collegial environment. We work together to help one another grow as professionals, focused on growing and excelling in a private practice environment. Burchell Wickwire Bryson LLP is known for its great workplace culture; we work hard, we enjoy our work, and we respect and enjoy our colleagues at the firm.

Burchell Wickwire Bryson LLP is committed to building a diverse and inclusive work environment. We believe that diversity, equity and inclusion is essential for building a better workplace and community and also enhances the legal services we provide to our diverse clientele.

In terms of practice areas, Burchell Wickwire Bryson LLP has active practices in corporate & commercial transactions, civil litigation, insurance defence litigation, family law, criminal law and labour & employment. Uniquely, we also have the largest and one of the longest standing Indigenous Peoples law practices in Atlantic Canada. Our Indigenous Peoples practice group represents clients in all areas of Indigenous Peoples law, including First Nation governance, litigation, land claims, First Nations Economic Development, and aboriginal entrepreneurship.

Aside from working hard in the office, our lawyers are involved in the city and the profession, offering their time on charities, in the arts, and with the activities of the Canadian Bar Association and the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society. Burchell Wickwire Bryson LLP is, and works to continue being, part of the fabric of our community.

As an Articled Clerk at Burchell Wickwire Bryson LLP, you will experience an in-depth and well-rounded exposure to all firm practice areas. We maintain a flexible program, tailoring the experience to the interests of both clerks and lawyers, in order to avoid the missed opportunities sometimes inherent in a rigid rotation model. Clerks are paired with a mentoring lawyer to ensure the articling year offers access to all aspects of the practice of law. Mentors also are advocates for our clerks, ensuring they receive rewarding work and assisting with workload management.

We augment our articled clerks' training with in-house seminars designed to highlight specific legal issues or developing trends. We strive to expose not only our articled clerks but all of our lawyers to ongoing professional development and sharing of expertise within the office.

With experience comes greater autonomy. As the articling year develops we encourage our lawyers to find opportunities for clerks to work directly with clients, and experience has shown that this is often the case indeed.

Burchell Wickwire Bryson LLP respects the significant burden faced by articled clerks in participating in and completing all work assignments associated with the bar admission course. We do what can to ease the stress accompanying this aspect of bar admission. Above all, we recognize our articled clerks' success as our success.
