Employment Opportunity: Recruitment and Admissions Officer (2 vacancies - 3 year contract subject to a probationary period)

Established in 1789, the University of King's College is Canada's oldest chartered university and is associated with Dalhousie University. A small and extraordinarily lively academic community located in Halifax (Kjipuktuk), Nova Scotia, King's is known nationally and internationally for its highly acclaimed interdisciplinary programs in the humanities, including its renowned Foundation Year Program, its professional programs in journalism and its fine arts programs in creative writing. Reporting to the Recruitment and Admissions Manager, the Recruitment and Admissions Officer works to meet the enrolment goals of the University of King's College by providing prospective students and those that influence them with detailed information on the King's experience. This will include extensive travel to promote the College in markets across the country to present the University's strengths at post-secondary events. The Recruitment and Admissions Officer will also build effective relationships with prospective students and their families and provide complete and accurate information about programs, residence life, the admissions process and any other details required by prospective student.

Specific Duties/Accountabilities

Recruitment

  • Planning, scheduling, arranging travelling, and participating in visits to high schools and other recruitment related events, receptions, alumni events, parent information sessions, to promote the University of King's College to students, parents, and guidance counselors;
  • Assisting with on-campus recruitment initiatives and events, including Open Houses, webinars, and campus tours; and supporting the operational needs of the Enrolment and Student Life Office by providing exceptional service to prospective and current students.
  • Developing and delivering presentations that promote the many benefits of attending the University of King's College;
  • Providing detailed information on admission policies and practices, as well as general information on academic, co-curricular, and extra-curricular programs, current events, and other issues of interest to various stakeholders;
  • Responsible for fostering engagement with prospective students and continually enhancing and maintaining relationships with high schools' personnel and provide up-to-date information to counselors by communicating with school counselors and teachers.
  • Responsible for fostering relationships with agents and other partners with whom King's works closely on international recruitment strategies, especially colleagues at Dalhousie University, which is closely associated with the University of King's College.
  • Evaluating applicants' academic credentials and eligibility for admission to the University, prepares related reports, and assists with associated programs and materials.
  • Keeping abreast of admission requirements and programs across faculties and degree programs, including changes to degree requirements, academic and other university regulations;
  • Remaining current with developing trends and initiatives in strategic enrolment;
  • Producing reports on recruitment activities;
  • Contributing to University social media accounts.

Admissions

  • Responding to inquiries and counsel prospective students and their parents or guardians on the university application process and admission requirements;
  • Assisting high school guidance counselors with relevant academic information;
  • Conducting admissions meetings and on-the-spot admissions assessments;
  • Evaluating applicants' academic credentials and eligibility for admission to the university ensuring that applicants are assessed promptly and accurately;
  • Updating and maintaining accurate data for admissions decisions;
  • Assessing admissions trends for specific markets, as assigned;
  • Identifying opportunities for improvement in admissions processes and data management;
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree;
  • 1-3 years of experience in marketing and communications or related field;
  • University of King's College graduates
  • A valid driver's license and passport.

The starting salary range for this position is: $48,990 to $54,009. A comprehensive group benefits package is offered including membership in the Nova Scotia Public Service Superannuation Plan (PSSP).
