Cashier

The Mills Group is a well-established building supply retailer with two locations in South Shore, Nova Scotia (Chester Building Supplies and Nova Scotia Building Supplies). Role:

We are seeking a reliable and friendly Cashier to join our team at our hardware goods store. The Cashier will be responsible for processing customer transactions accurately and efficiently, handling cash and credit card payments, and providing exceptional customer service. The successful candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced environment and be comfortable working with customers in a professional and courteous manner.

Responsibilities:

• Greet customers and provide exceptional customer service.
• Process customer transactions accurately and efficiently, using cash registers and credit card machines.
• Count money in cash drawers at the beginning and end of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct.
• Handle customer returns and exchanges in a professional and courteous manner
• Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions, as well as store policies regarding payment and exchanges
• Answer customer questions regarding store products, policies, and procedures
• Keep the checkout area clean and organized, including merchandise displays and store shelves.
• Assist with stocking shelves and maintaining inventory as needed.
• Follow all safety and security procedures, including the proper use of equipment and handling of hazardous materials.
• Work collaboratively with team members to achieve store goals.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 1+ years of experience in a customer-facing role, preferably as a cashier or retail sales associate
• Strong attention to detail and ability to perform basic math calculations.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
• Comfortable standing for extended periods
