Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Human Resources, Business or a related discipline.
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience in delivering Human Resources services.
  • A suitable combination of formal education and experience may be considered.
  • Previous experience working and/or integrating processes using HRIS is an asset.
  • Knowledge and application of provincial employment law and regulations.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment.
  • Ability to speak in both official languages would be considered an asset.

Reporting to the Manager of Human Resources, the successful applicant is responsible for recruitment and selection, labour relations, negotiations, employee relations and support, record keeping, and continuous improvement. The work performed is highly confidential and requires the ability to work independently, as well as liaise with client departments. The successful applicant must exercise a high level of professionalism, considerable tact, judgment and initiative.

What You'll Do:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact with managers of client departments on all aspects of human resources including but not limited to employee and labour relations matters, recruitment, workplace issues, interpreting and applying collective agreements, HR policies and legislation.
  • Coordinate and participate in both internal and external recruitment efforts, including reviewing job descriptions, interviewing and selection of employees.
  • Assist with, in conjunction with Compensation & Benefits, the coordination of the onboarding / promotion process for new and existing employees.
  • Provide consistent operational advice, interpretation and guidance to employees regarding HR policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Participate in labour relations including grievances, Collective Bargaining negotiations, dispute resolution, mediation and fostering a positive labour environment with union representatives.
  • Actively participate in committee work that helps support business initiatives and the CAOs goals.
  • Liaise with outside agencies to provide EFAP support for employees and managers.
  • Ensure new employees are well versed in corporate onboarding process.
  • Provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Proven ability in obtaining fair results in all aspects of recruitment, labour and employee relations.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment and Collective Agreements
  • Ability to understand a situation by breaking into smaller pieces and/or tracing the implications in a step-by-step manner.
  • Ability to identify issues or problems and develop strategies, ideas and opportunities for resolving them.
  • Ability to prioritize, coordinate, and manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Familiarity with the Human Rights, Industrial Relations and Employment standards acts.
  • Experience resolving conflict.
  • Ability to create a shared understanding of requirements in the work environment and through influence, enable team members to fully contribute to team and departmental/corporate goals.
  • Ability to effectively contribute to the establishment, maintenance and success of work teams, focused on achieving individual, team and departmental goals.
