The successful candidate will join the Compliance Oversight of Models Office (COMO), an interdisciplinary team that sits at the intersection of data science, regulatory understanding, and ethics. COMO is responsible for the global compliance oversight of machine learning models from a regulatory compliance and conduct risk perspective. COMO's oversight spans the model lifecycle and engagement with disparate model stakeholders. The COMO mandate includes but is not limited to:

  • Assessing models for regulatory compliance and conduct risk; and

  • Providing oversight and independent challenge to approaches used to identify, assess, and address model compliance risks and concerns (e.g., fairness/bias and explainability).

COMO embraces a multidisciplinary approach, celebrating the alternative, multi-faceted perspectives needed to ensure that AI is developed and deployed appropriately. COMO is committed to helping team members develop professionally and expand their horizons because the best way to address the ML challenges of tomorrow is to have a team that can see those challenges today.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a co-op/intern student within COMO you will have the opportunity to be heard, keep growing and make a difference in a rapidly evolving space. The COMO opportunity will place the best students in positions that they will grow both technically and personally through their experience working closely with the team and other stakeholders.

This experience will allow the co-op/intern to experience life in a risk oversight function while contributing to many activities that are critical to the team's success. This internship will require a strong candidate who is dynamic with exceptional analytical skills and the ability to take on adjunct tasks as required to support the broader team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting research in the artificial intelligence and machine learning space as it pertains to topics of bias/fairness and explainability

  • Determining applicability of forthcoming laws, rules and regulations related to model oversight and AI from a global perspective (including Canada and Europe Asia Pacific ('EAP')) in addition to industry artifacts

  • conducting an operational gap analysis of the COMO program, identifying and proposing net new requirements and/or revisions to existing items within COMO's artifacts and/or processes as to ensure there is adequate oversight and effective challenge throughout the model lifecycle from a model compliance risk perspective and in accordance with jurisdictional specificity

  • Preparing presentations (informal or otherwise) to team members on research results and proposals from a practical implementation perspective

  • Reviewing the Enterprise model inventory, determining scope and applicability of non-ML models that may require COMO review.
