The Canada Games Aquatic Centre (CGAC) is a community centre for wellness and active living. With aquatic amenities, a fitness facility, massage therapy, and other offerings onsite, there is something for all ages and abilities to enjoy. Featuring the only 50-metre pool in the province, the facility hosts public swims and other gatherings for the communities of the Fundy region, along with sport tourism events that contribute to the local economy. The organization is also one of the largest providers of swimming lessons in New Brunswick. Governed by the Saint John Aquatic Center Commission, the CGAC is a registered charity that is subsidized through the Fundy Regional Service Commission.
Position: Full-time Maintenance
The Maintenance department plays a critical operational role by ensuring the cleanliness and functionality of the CGAC. Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, this individual must have a strong work ethic and a high degree of regard for our customers.
Summary of Duties
- Responsible for the general maintenance of buildings and grounds
- Extensive and thorough cleaning of the full facility
- Light maintenance duties (painting, shoveling, lawn care, etc.)
- Assigned building security routines, including after-hours rentals
- Handling and usage of pool chemicals
- Maintain the proper chemical balance for the pools, ensuring safe and good water quality
- Receiving and storing inventory
- Set-up and tear-down of various events
- Promptly addressing unforeseen cleaning/maintenance issues that arise during operations
- Ensuring pool equipment such as diving boards, slides, and other amenities are maintained and in good working order
- Keep all equipment in good repair with a minimum of downtime by providing day-to-day maintenance
- Interpret readings from meters, gauges, and other measuring units
- Analyzing problems, identifying courses of action, and implementing solutions with available resources and to a high degree of quality
- Keeping work areas clean and well organized
- Ensure the safe, efficient, proper use, handling, installation, and storage of chemicals, corrosive materials, chlorine pucks, and other hazardous materials
- Remove snow and ice from the grounds to ensure safe access for patrons and staff
- Assemble furniture and other structures
- Maintain the pool area, including cleaning of the deck and other maintenance tasks
- Use swimming pool vacuum cleaners to clean the pool floor
- Other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Manager
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or recognized equivalent

- An understanding of the Canada Games Aquatic Centre's purpose and operations
Preferred Qualifications

- Preference may be given to individuals with other post-secondary education and/or experience in maintenance operations
- Experience with pools/aquatic facilities considered an asset
- Preference may be given to bilingual (English/French) candidates
Compensation
- $15.65-$20.76/hour
