The Team
Contributes to the overall success of the Core Banking Engineering Database Services –SQL Server & Cloud EngineeringTeam in Canada ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Database Services manage, maintain and optimize critical enterprise database systems for Canadian Banking Technology, International Banking Systems, Global Finance Technology, and Digital Factory. We deliver 24/7, year-round support to production databases on both cloud and on premise.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Design, develop & test enhancements and support MS SQL, Azure SQL DB and Azure MI database systems.
  • Provide technical analyses and recommendations in terms of new solutions and supporting existing ones.
  • Ability to translate meta data and/or requirements into a DB design and understand the impacts of the design in terms of DB performance so we can ensure the full solution is optimal.
  • Develop DDL/DML scripts and enhance DB performance (queries, stored procedures, views, data distribution patterns, etc.).
  • 24x7 pager support on a rotating basis.
  • Able to work individually or as part of a team.
  • Possess good technical presentation and communication skills.
  • Desire to keep up with new technological innovations.
  • Willingness to be accountable/responsible for assigned tasks/projects.
  • Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science or technical equivalent
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience as a Database Analyst/Database Engineer/Application DBA supporting MS SQL, Azure SQL DB, Azure MI, CloudSQL
  • Experience working with remote teams.
  • Experience developing ETL solutions with SSIS or Data Factory is an asset.
  • Ability to contribute in Agile environments with understanding of its methodologies (Scrum/Kanban) and its tools (Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps).
  • Understanding the use of Source Code Management for tracking database scripts using Git or TFVC and its tools (Bitbucket and Azure DevOps).
  • Understanding the impact of data encryption in database solutions using Always Encrypted and/or Tokenization.
