The New Brunswick Coroner Service is an independent and publicly accountable investigation of death agency. Coroner Services is mandated by statute to review all sudden and unexpected deaths in New Brunswick and conduct inquests as may be required in the public interest.

What you will do
Major duties include:

  • Conduct death investigations by attending death scenes and coordinating all aspects of death investigation in accordance with the Coroners Act;
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with regional stakeholders;
  • Work with grieving families;
  • Ensure thorough and quality investigations and reports are produced and that all policies and procedures are followed;
  • Identify and implement best practices for improved and consistent service delivery with counterparts under the direction of the Deputy Chief Operations,
  • Participate in continuous learning activities

Work environment

  • Office location: 428 Collishaw Street, Moncton
  • Position requires office and field work
  • Your Team: small teams of Community Coroners
  • Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15-4:30. Monthly stand-by is required and some night and weekend work may also be required.
  • We promote a scent-reduced environment.

Need to have (their essential skills and qualifications)

  • Post-Secondary Education in a related field
  • Five (5) years of experience in the investigative, medical or legal fields
  • Successful candidates will be required to undergo a criminal history clearance and security clearance check.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Operational Requirements: The following operational requirement are also required:

  • Ability to perform field work/investigations
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Ability to carry out physical duties, walking in rough terrains, lifting and moving bodies, etc.
  • Candidates must possess a valid class 5 driver's license and have access to reliable vehicle
  • Ability to conduct or assist with inquests as required
  • Successful candidate will be required to obtain American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigation Certification (ABMDI).

Nice to Have (their asset qualifications)

  • Previous experience in research and/or investigations.
  • Experience in managing and overseeing complex investigations
  • Previous experience working as a coroner
  • Previous experience in death investigation

Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

Wage
$2,043 to $2,481 Biweekly depending on education and experience
