Ducimus Capital Inc. ("Ducimus") is a leading private capital lender for the commercial and agriculture marketplace. We specialize in providing custom interim mortgage financing solutions for clientele in Ontario and Nova Scotia. The businesses we assist have found themselves temporarily unable to access traditional financial resources due to circumstances beyond their control. This is where we can help. We lead borrowers by providing capital to bridge difficult financial gaps or at a slightly earlier stage than traditional lenders in order to help them secure a prosperous future for their businesses.

The Opportunity:

Ducimus Capital Inc. is a leading private lender specializing in first and second mortgage financing for commercial real estate. Since 2018, we have provided over $450 million in customized financing solutions across various asset classes, including mixed-use, multi-family, industrial, land development, and purpose-built rental projects. Our agile and tailored solutions, combined with proprietary funds and efficient processes, empower clients to quickly seize opportunities in both Ontario and Nova Scotia.

We are currently seeking a Director of Underwriting and Portfolio Management to join our growing team in a hybrid role based in Kitchener, Ontario. Reporting to the Vice President, the Director will lead and enhance our credit operations, ensuring excellence in underwriting and proactive portfolio oversight. If you are a dynamic leader with an ability to make high impact decisions and provide executive leadership for strategic development, planning, execution, and delivery, you are our ideal candidate!

What You Will Do:
  • Shape credit strategy and contribute to company expansion, including transitioning to third-party capital raising.
  • Oversee mortgage operations: underwriting, credit adjudication, funding, servicing, risk management, portfolio oversight, and special loans.
  • Mentor and develop underwriters and portfolio managers, fostering high performance.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on strategic initiatives: capital raising, market entry, and product expansion. Collaborate with legal counsel for smooth deal closings and compliance.
  • Oversee commercial real estate loan underwriting, ensuring accuracy and adaptability.
  • Prepare and present credit memorandums to the Executive Credit Committee.
  • Ensure compliance with FSRA guidelines, MBLAA, and internal governance.
  • Manage commercial real estate loan funding, ensuring timely disbursement and adherence to credit terms.
  • Monitor commercial loan servicing, including covenant compliance and payment collections.
  • Handle distressed loans, including restructuring and enforcement strategies.
  • Lead portfolio report preparation for management and the credit committee.
  • Oversee investor reporting package development and distribution.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external partners, investors, legal counsel, and service providers.
  • Act as primary contact for investor inquiries, providing updates on loan performance and investment opportunities.
  • Support capital-raising initiatives with investment proposals and presentations.
What We Offer You:
  • Comprehensive health and dental benefits
  • RRSP contribution matching
  • 3 weeks paid vacation annually
  • Professional development and training opportunities
What You Need to Succeed:
  • 7-10 years in commercial real estate underwriting, credit analysis, and portfolio management, including leadership in managing underwriting teams. Preferred experience in private lending, commercial banking, or alternative lending.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, real estate, or related field. CPA, CFA, or MBA designations are an asset.
  • Strong financial modeling and analytical skills, including cash flow analysis, LTV, LTC calculations, and equity return modeling.
  • In-depth understanding of real estate market trends and key metrics (rental rates, cap rates, land valuations).
  • Knowledge of land entitlement processes (zoning, site plan approvals, permitting, development agreements), construction financing, and project delivery methods.
  • Experience in preparing and presenting investor reporting packages and portfolio summaries.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with investors, service providers, and legal counsel.
  • Excellent communication skills for delivering complex information clearly and effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and adaptability in a dynamic lending environment.
