Job Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Programs and Services oversees a multidisciplinary staff team, comprising of registered counsellors and support staff. This position is responsible for the management, monitoring and evaluation of client-facing programs/services in alignment with Alice House's mission and goals. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in shaping day-to-day program operations, empowering staff and ensuring women and children recovering from intimate partner violence receive the care and resources they need to rebuild their lives in a safe and supportive environment. This is a full-time permanent position commencing as soon as possible. Given the population we serve, women and fem-identifying candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

About Alice House

For 41 years, Alice House has provided safe second-stage housing, counselling and support services for women/fem-identifying individuals and their children recovering from intimate partner violence in Nova Scotia. In addition to 18 safe-housing units, we offer a suite of wrap around services including family counselling, court support, housing support and safety planning. Alice House operates with a team of 11 staff and management under a volunteer Board of Directors with an annual budget just under $1.5 million.

Job Accountabilities

Program & Service Operations

  • Manage and oversee programming delivery, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Lead drafting, revising and implementation of program policies/procedures to empower staff and promote a consistent and positive client experience.
  • Work collaboratively to identify and implement opportunities for program and service expansion.
  • Ensure strong data collection framework to enable accountability and impact reporting.
  • Work collaboratively with the ED to cultivate community partnerships and alliances to enhance or support new and existing programs.
  • Provide counselling and escalated support services, as suitable.

Leadership and Administration

  • Conduct ongoing hiring, onboarding, and supervision of direct reports.
  • Support staff with identifying and accessing professional development opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Monitor staff resilience and communication; work with leadership team to foster and promote team cohesion, retention and wellness.
  • Bring service and program perspective to organizational planning and budgeting initiatives.
  • Manage the timely and accurate reporting of data and program results.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in social work, counselling or related discipline, required.
  • Registration with a governing body (i.e. NSCSW, CCC, RPC, etc).
  • Progressive experience in management or leadership positions.
  • 7+ years working in housing, counselling or related field.
  • A car, valid driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Certification in First Aid + CPR, NVCI, ASIST, or a commitment to secure these requirements within 3 months of hire.
  • Ability to work flexible hours/on-call, infrequently, when necessary.

Skills

  • Must be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a team context.
  • Strong ability to build and maintain positive relationships with clients, staff and community.
  • Understanding of Trauma and Violence Informed practice and demonstrated experience working with individuals recovering from trauma.
  • Ability to lead with positivity amidst change and growth.
  • Proficiency in managing and developing budgets.
  • Professionalism in communication, boundary-setting and decision-making.
  • Knowledge of the issues facing and supports available for survivors of IPV.
  • Intermediate computer skills (i.e. Windows, Google, MS Word, Excel and Email.)

Working Conditions

  • Full-time on-site in downtown Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
  • Generally, Monday to Friday, office hours + back-up on-call support as needed.
  • Ability to walk short distances, sit for extended periods, and climb up to 3 flights of stairs at a time.

The base salary for this role is $64,175 - $83,050 commensurate with skills and experience.
