About the Role:

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Project Accountant maintains an even balance of two key priorities; the first, is to liaise with identified proponents and our internal financial team to provide and verify essential financial information and the second is to ensure timely, accurate project financial reporting is achieved. In short, this role works tirelessly to make sure project costs are clearly understood, documented, compliant, approved and recorded. Combining your critical thinking skills, high level of accuracy and work quality with a sense of urgency is essential to be successful in this role. You will be working in newly emerging markets, programs and processes; some of which you could enhance to provide both timely client service and a high level of accuracy with your work. Role and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible to conduct detailed project claim reviews; validate and seek clarification from proponents on all relevant details of the costs
  • Review, verify, validate, process and approve project claims
  • Main contact with project proponents providing guidance on processes and follow up with questions
  • Ensure thorough documentation of claims review, such as documenting the verification of supporting documentation, discussions with project proponents, any testing and sampling rationale, etc.
  • Provide regular project reporting updates to key stakeholders
  • Contribute to the financial analysis of project related KPIs
  • Support the preparation of regular project cost forecasting
  • Provide regular status updates, ensuring all claims are processed in a timely manner, and assist the Director of Finance with managing the claims review workflow
  • Contribute to the preparation of required reporting to OSC funding providers
  • Support the finance team with internal project audit working papers and adhoc projects
  • Capture details and appropriate record management of all claims, electronically and providing updates and reporting to other OSC teammates as requested
  • Proactively identify, and/or participate in, OSC systems changes, enhancements or implementations which impact project reporting;
  • Assist finance team in maintaining and improving guides, manuals or any material related to project claims, eligible project costs, etc.

What you Bring:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field
  • 1-2 years of experience in accounts payable
  • Bi-lingual (French and English) is considered an asset
  • Audit or claim review experience considered an asset
  • Experience inside a firm and / or a client facing industry is critical
  • Experience working within the blue economy considered an asset
  • In depth understanding and prior experience with the Blue Economy is a plus
