The Senior Advisor, Office of the CEO is accountable for senior strategic leadership and oversight of policies and initiatives, as identified by the CEO, that generally span the full range of the Corporation's mandate and priorities. The Senior Advisor to the Chief Executive Officer should inspire and promote a collaborative culture within the corporation, and support the development of collaborative relationships, built on trust and respect, within and beyond the corporation. At a time of significant transformation within the corporation, the position is accountable for ensuring that the work of all divisions is: strategically tied to Corporation priorities; cohesively integrated and implemented; conducted collaboratively with partners and others, clearly communicated and with a strategic focus. This position requires expert problem-solving skills, the capacity to build collaborative teams from across the department and government in a way that builds consensus, aligns priorities, and move effortless across the silos of government to advance results, inform strategy, and maximize impact.

The Senior Advisor is also responsible for facilitating and ensuring coherence and collaboration across corporation branches and across government, and for supporting appropriate partnerships that will support innovation and opportunities within Build Nova Scotia's mandate and aligned with priorities of the corporation.

This position is also responsible for leading or overseeing a variety of significant, complex, or confidential assignments and projects on behalf of the CEO, and for managing urgent, high priority and contentious issues, ensuring effective linkages and integration across the organization when formulating and implementing solutions. This position requires attention to approaching the work of the corporation with a strategic, integrated priority lens and well-honed relationship management at the highest level. This position must have the capacity to address the urgent and tactical issues as required but must have the demonstrated capacity to see over the horizon to the broader strategic objectives and outcomes.

Responsibilities

· Provide strategic leadership and advice in developing and integrating policies and initiatives, aligned with corporation priorities. Works cross organizationally and collaboratively to advance priorities in an integrated and strategic way that takes a systems and results focus. This will include collaborating on policy and project goals, objectives, research and data collection, strategies, and evaluation plans. The position is also accountable for providing leadership and advice on communications, and strategic positioning particularly related to consistent messaging and public reporting on progress and supporting critical relationships. Develop engaged and collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders and may include significant issues management and strategic initiatives. This includes a close working relationship with stakeholders and outreach elements of the Corporation and its work.

· Represent the CEO's Office on projects and committees and represent the CEO when responding to requests for information from the Deputy Minister's Office, Minister's Office, Premier's Office, and other central agencies. The Senior Advisor will be required to facilitate, support, and build critical relationships with the entire leadership team, and work with all divisions on strategic priorities and projects. The Senior Advisor will also be required to follow progress on Corporation priorities and provide updates to the CEO and Executive Leadership Team (ELT).

· Promote and build trusting, respectful relationships with stakeholders, staff, and senior management to bring a collective voice to key issues.

· Define and direct issues management strategies and processes on key issues. Anticipate, identify, analyze, and evaluate problems and issues; recommends appropriate and timely resolutions and actions; brief the CEO, the Executive Leadership Team, and others as necessary; obtain support and promote strategic objectives and ensure that follow-up and implementation comply with approvals in resolving conflicts/issues.

· Provide strategic advice to the CEO and ELT on priority initiatives and issues of concern to partners.

· Ensure the effective management of human and financial resources by promoting diversity and a healthy, respectful workplace, demonstrating the leadership competencies, respecting corporate human resources practices, promoting teamwork and individual development, maintaining internal communication, adhering to procurement guidelines, and acquiring goods and services in the most cost-effective manner.

Qualifications

A degree in a related discipline combined with several years of progressive experience in complex, multi-stakeholder environments providing advice to executive level decision makers and/or providing strategic advice and planning within leadership roles. An equivalent combination of related training and experience may be considered.

You are sensitive to political, cultural, people and departmental and corporation requirements with a recognition of resistance and the ability to overcome these challenges.

Exceptional communication, partnering and relationship building skills are required to facilitate, support, and build critical relationships with leadership teams and divisions. You have a proven track record in successfully influencing leaders through well-articulated and principle-based direction, strategies, plans and outcomes.

Experience preparing briefing materials, project planning, tracking, and reporting is required. As a conceptual thinker, you thrive in an environment which requires taking initiative and being outcome focused.
