The salary scale for Professional Support 4 is based on twelve steps that range from $74,104.27 - $98,521.32. New Professional Support may receive up to a maximum of seven steps for relevant occupational experience which is $86,294.89 annually.

Responsibilities

What you will be doing…

  • Reporting to the Manager, Student Accessibility Services, you will lead projects, initiatives, and activities of Accessibility Services including, but not limited to, transitioning in, learning supports, assistive technology, operational procedures, and case management systems for students with disabilities.
  • You will develop and implement standards, procedures and guidelines for quality assurance and consistency of practice College-wide.
  • You will work with Student Accessibility Specialists to navigate complex and escalated cases in relation to policy, procedure, and holistic service.
  • You will coordinate, plan, develop, deliver and evaluate orientations, training workshops and educational materials for Accessibility Services staff and partner with the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) on professional development activities and resources for faculty.
  • You will maintain a caseload and lead accommodation planning as needed. This includes close collaboration with external agencies and partners.
  • You will coordinate with students, ASL interpretation teams, and other service providers as required. You will be responsible for scheduling, service confirmation and ensuring that all service providers meet the highest standards of quality.
  • You will work collaboratively with the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL), Human Rights, Equity and Inclusion (HREI) Office, Academic Chairs, Faculty, Libraries and Learning Commons, Student Affairs, and other internal and external stakeholders to support students with disabilities and the advancement of student accessibility services.
  • You will further the College's vision of equity in relation to our legal duty to accommodate in accordance with Accessibility legislation and the Human Rights Commission.
Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a Bachelor's degree, including, but not limited to adult education, neuroeducation, special education.
  • Certificate in Applied Disability Studies or Learning Strategist is considered an asset.
  • You have a minimum of (3) three years (full time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in adult education, neuroeducation, special education, or a related field.
  • Experience developing and supporting academic accommodation plans for students with disabilities in a post-secondary environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning and student development principles, disabilities, and learning support interventions.
  • Project Management and leadership experience.
  • You have strong demonstrated experience using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail, Microsoft Teams, and have relevant experience with case management systems, assistive technology, ERP systems (e.g., Peoplesoft) and learning management systems (e.g., Brightspace).
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience.
  • You have experience in workshop preparation, delivery, and facilitation.
  • You have experience supporting/providing service to students and prospective students.

  • You possess excellent coordination skills specifically related to logistics, planning and organization.
  • You have proven records management skills and abilities in keeping confidential case notes, creating and maintaining electronic student files, collecting and analyzing service data and usage statistics.
  • Excellent communication skills while working with colleagues and serving students in both physical and virtual environments.
Work With Us

As a condition of employment, Professional Support employees at NSCC must complete a two-year (part-time) adult education program delivered by NSCC. This adult education program is a significant investment on the part of NSCC in the learning and development of new employees. To achieve regular status; all probationary, full or part-time Professional Support employees of the College must successfully complete the program within their probationary period. Term full-time Professional Support employees whose term appointment is twelve or more months are also required to participate in this program.
