Team Overview

The Liquidity Risk Technology group at TD Securities is seeking a business facing technical leader at the Director level, to build the next generation of risk computation platforms. The core mission of the applications we build is to help the firm quantify, understand, and reduce our external total exposure in case of adverse market conditions. We operate within a modern and complex area of finance, operating with sophisticated computational models, supporting billions of calculations daily and leveraging Big Data storage for analytics and data distribution.

Responsibilities

Working closely with our business partners across trading, finance and risk management the successful candidate will own the following responsibilities:

  • Architect our risk applications in line with microservices patterns, distributed caching, and stream processing with a view to scale to hundreds of billions of computations daily

  • Manage a team of 5+ Developers working primarily in Java

  • Develop an organization supporting the growth plans for the Front-Office as well as aligning with Risk Management and Finance risk, control and regulatory reporting requirements

  • Develop and execute on a large-scale Data strategy for the group (including ingestion, reporting and dashboarding)

  • Develop tooling and processes to enhance the efficiency of the team

The successful candidate should also demonstrate a strong affinity with the following:

  • Work collaboratively with technical and non-technical teams at TD to solve business and technology challenges

  • Provide technical leadership to the group and beyond, adopt a scalability and stability-first approach to design and implementation

  • Adopt a client-centric approach in support of our business growth models

  • Leverage industry standard DevOps practices and tooling for CI/CD, TDD and build tools

  • Partner with product SME's, Treasury, and Risk Management stakeholders to develop a strategic analytics platform to optimize the dealer and enterprise's funding & liquidity needs

  • Act as product manager and champion for the platform's analytics and end-user experience

  • Complete in-depth analysis on trades and products across TDS and their overall impact on the dealer's funding and liquidity position

  • Drive and facilitate data on-boarding from source systems onto the target solution

  • Provide end-to-end test case development for developers and end-users

Technical Skills

  • 10+ years of technical leadership experience with direct people management responsibilities

  • Demonstrable architecture experience, with a focus on the design of large-scale distributed risk engines (liquidity risk, market risk or counterparty credit risk)

  • Demonstrable experience managing teams developing components in Java

  • Experience of NoSQL databases, Hadoop, distributed caching (Redis preferable), Big Data streaming technologies (Flink, Kafka Streams, Spring Cloud Stream), experience with RDBMS packages, demonstrable fluency in SQL, messaging (Kafka)

  • Experience of Azure (preferable) or AWS, Google Cloud

  • Experience of git, CI/CD toolset (Maven, Gradle), Jenkins, working within an Agile environment

  • Knowledge of the following would be a plus: Scala, Angular, React, Excel integration, ELK, TypeScript

  • Develop business and technical documentation to be implemented by development teams

  • Lead in business analysis to address cross-regional requirements

  • Oversee and/or execute test scripts within the testing environment, ensuring defects are logged, and documented for Developer corrections

  • Establish and/or and follow established testing procedures, standards and processes

  • Provide expert knowledge of testing to projects in which QA is engaged/required

  • Lead in knowledge transfer within the team, and business units globally

  • Sound technical knowledge and analytical skills

Essential:

  • SQL or other database experience

  • API (REST, GraphQL) experience

  • Jira, Bitbucket, Git, Collaborate experience

  • Experience designing wireframes, database and API schemas, testing with ETL tools

Nice to have:
  • Familiarity with JavaScript or other scripting languages

  • Experience working with Kafka, ProtoBuf, Spark, Hadoop services

  • Have worked in an agile environment and familiarity with scrum ceremonies

Non-Technical Skills
  • Experience in working within a global team

  • Strong communication skills

  • Demonstrable experience working in a fast-paced environment, and supportive of flexible goals aligned with business priorities

  • Demonstrable track record in delivering for the stakeholders within a Capital Markets setting

  • Knowledge of derivatives pricing and capital markets is a strong plus

  • Support a positive work environment that promotes customer service, quality, innovation and teamwork and ensure timely communication of issues/ points of interest

Essential:

  • Hands-on expertise with data analytics

  • Knowledge of liquidity and collateral management and regulations, including collateral monitoring, stress tests, forecast requirements

Nice to have:

  • Trading platform expertise with both in-house and vendor systems
