Opening Statement
The R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home is a Long-Term Care Home to 137 Residents and employs approx. 250 staff in various Departments.
The Long-Term Care Assistant (LTCA) role at R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home is a supportive position that contributes to the activities of daily living for the residents. LTCAs directly report to the Director or Manager of Clinical Services. The LTCAs are a vital part of the multidisciplinary health care team that work alongside the Continuing Care Assistants (CCA) and licensed employees; Registered Nurses (RN) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN). The LTCA is responsible to the Team Lead RN or LPN in the Care Area
Key Responsibilities:
- Work alongside CCAs and licensed staff and adhere to the guidance and coaching by CCAs and licensed staff.
- LTCAs are responsible to have a sound understanding of their role and understand the boundaries of their role.
- Required to adhere to the guidance and coaching by CCAs, RNs, and LPNs.
- Assist in admission and in-house transfers as directed by the Charge Nurse.
- Performs light housekeeping duties such as tidying residents'/clients' rooms and collecting the garbage, cleaning closets, hanging clothes, making beds, cleaning wash basin, dental care cups, and personal care carts.
- Cleaning wheelchairs, and cushions as well and sending resident clothing to be marked by laundry.
- Clean and make beds.
- Measure and record intake and outputs.
- Share in observing changes in resident's condition and report observations to immediate Supervisor, etc.
Education/Experience
- Grade 12 Completion or non-academic equivalent (to be determined by the employer)
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check
- Maintain regular and consistent attendance
- Good oral and written communication
- Ability to work shifts: days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
- Must have sound interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills
- Compassion, integrity, maturity, respect and a positive attitude are essential attributes
- Must be willing to gain training to role as per the facility's polices and guidelines and as reflect in the job duties
- Experience working on long term care, or with seniors considered an asset
- Experience working in customer service / hospitality considered an asset.

Hours of Work (Subject to change)
- 2 Perm Full Time 80 Hrs. Biweekly. Rotational Schedule to cover 7 days a week (12 hr. shifts)
- 1- Long Week/Short Week and 1- Short Week/Long Week 8:30 am - 8:30 pm (subject to change)
- 1 Perm Part Time .25 (20 hrs. biweekly 4 hr. shift) (4:30 pm - 8:30 pm, Thurs 4 pm - 10 pm (bingo night)
Rate: $ 19.33/hr.
