ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (BAND LEVEL 6)

(Contractual Position to March 31, 2026)
The Department of Facilities Management (FM) at Memorial University of Newfoundland is a dynamic team of professionals dedicated to providing high-quality facilities engineering support. The Physical Infrastructure and Sustainability section of FM plays a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the university's physical environment by supporting site maintenance and construction, optimizing space utilization, and ensuring sustainability across campus.
DUTIES
The Engineering Technician, reporting to the Manager, Space Planning, will be responsible for updating GIS and AutoCAD/Revit databases, updating the space inventory database, providing support to Facilities Engineering and Development staff as required, and assisting with leasing documents. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy of university maps, plans, and spatial data, as well as supporting efficient space allocation across campus. Duties include modifying legacy maps and engineering drawings using GIS/AutoCAD/Revit software, including updating underground piping, cabling, surface roads, and other campus features; performing edits to GIS databases; conducting quality assurance checks; and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of spatial data. Additional responsibilities include producing custom and standard map products for internal and external use, ensuring clarity and precision in all outputs; regularly updating AutoCAD and Revit as-built drawings for campus buildings, reflecting accurate and current facility information; transitioning existing AutoCAD drawings into Revit; assisting Facilities Engineering and Development staff with various project-related tasks, including data collection, analysis, and technical support; supporting space allocation by maintaining and updating the space database; assisting with space planning activities and ensuring compliance with university policies; assisting with processing leasing documents and ensuring compliance with university policies; monitoring the functionality of wide-format plotters, ensuring the availability of supplies; troubleshooting issues as needed; and performing other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (3-5 years) in GIS mapping or a related field; completion of a three-year diploma in engineering technology is required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Proficiency in GIS software, AutoCAD and/or Revit software, and Microsoft Office Suite is essential. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, as well as the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Experience with space management, including maintaining space databases and supporting space allocation processes, would be considered an asset.
SALARY $31.50 - $36.95 per annum (NAPE Local 8701)
