Definition of work:
The Nurse Practitioner is responsible to provide comprehensive assessment and care to clients in the Dialysis Unit in collaboration with the medical internists/nephrologists. The successful applicant works independently in diagnosing conditions, prescribing medications, performing or ordering diagnostic tests and treatments, evaluating treatments and providing follow-up care. The Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive and holistic nursing care to clients including health promotion, injury and illness treatment and prevention, supportive, curative and rehabilitative care. As an advanced practitioner, the Nurse Practitioner functions in the roles of practitioner, educator and leader. As governed by provincial regulations, he/she practices independently, collaborating with the primary care physicians and/ or specialist in the area for issues outside the Nurse Practitioner scope of practice. The successful candidate reports directly to the Director of Medicine and Dialysis. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person and family centered care, demonstrate commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.
Required qualifications:
• Graduation from a Nurse Practitioner program approved by Central Health.
• Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of NL and Licensed (or eligible for licensure) as a Nurse Practitioner (Adult or Family/All Ages) with the CRNNL.
• Current BLS certification.
• Demonstrated knowledge of home and community health services.
• Demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and problem-solving skills as well as oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work well independently and in an interdisciplinary team environment.
• A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 Driver’s License and the use of a private vehicle.

• A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
• A satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
