The Director of Enterprise Risk Planning & Enablement is responsible for supporting the CRO Tangerine in a Chief of Staff capacity, as well as leading the Enterprise Risk Strategy team in the planning and delivery of the annual risk appetite framework, strategic risk initiatives that stretch across risk pillars, executive communications, and advisory support ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

  • Lead and drive a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Support the development and delivery of Enterprise Risk Management appetite planning and strategic risk management priorities by:
    • Leading the annual evaluation and rollout of risk appetite framework, including any key financial objectives and strategic priorities for risk management in collaboration with senior management
    • Leading the team accountable for preparation and submission of Enterprise Risk Management Committee 'ERMC', Board/Regulatory or Audit executive-level materials
    • Establishing and coordinating agenda/materials for Enterprise Risk Management Committee (ERMC)
    • Driving annual strategic planning process, including aggregated risk assessments, client/portfolio reviews and roadmap planning in collaboration with key partners
    • Coordinating the onboarding of strategic partnerships
    • Running the risk innovation lab
  • Lead the ongoing support of the CRO's strategic roadmap initiatives by:
    • Providing support to the management team in the development and implementation of enterprise risk initiatives
    • Influencing and negotiating with project participants, senior management, and all other stakeholders to maintain support, negotiate priorities and ensure key risk appetite deliverables stay on track.
    • Facilitating change management and talent/vendor onboarding activities to support the buildout of the Enterprise Risk Management Planning & Performance team
    • Actively manage external research and understanding of best practices in support of ongoing advisory guidance across all risks
    • Providing post-implementation status updates and support to senior stakeholders
    • Creating ongoing awareness and engagement through executive presentations.
  • Lead the CRO's communication strategy development and tactical execution by:
    • Preparing all key communication pieces to ensure consistent and effective messaging to all internal and external stakeholders.
    • Proactively identifying and implementing internal communication opportunities including responsibility for the execution of management meetings, town halls, team huddles, newsletters, Teams channels, specialized forums (pulse and risk culture survey results)
    • Facilitating the effective communication of the strategic plan within the business line and across the broader Bank.
    • Representing enterprise risk Senior Management at meetings, task forces and initiatives as required.
    • Managing the coordination of information requests and responses on behalf of the Senior Management team.
  • Manage the general administration team supporting the Tangerine risk management function:
    • Directs the delivery of key aspects of the annual risk appetite, including planning, resourcing, risk assessment, training/education, tracking budgets/costs
    • Establishing and maintaining relationships with outside consultants where the expertise does not exist within the organization.
    • Oversees CRO teams' performance scorecard; monitoring the progress of all key initiatives, including communicating against defined project milestones to ensure progress

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree or higher in business, statistics, accounting, economics or engineering.
  • A minimum of five to seven years supporting senior executive officers, with experience in financial services and/or risk management.
  • A proven track record in strategy development including in-depth experience and demonstrated success in leading multi-disciplinary initiatives of varying sizes and complexity, ensuring all elements of change are considered, understood and managed.
  • Advanced knowledge of agile, project and portfolio management concepts, techniques and tools.
  • Strong organizational skills to coordinate and prioritize a number of concurrent projects.
  • Excellent visionary, planning and analytical skills.
  • The ability to deliver results and manage through ambiguity given a matrix organizational hierarchy and complex regulatory frameworks
  • Outside-in competitive analysis of enterprise risks and opportunities, supported by clear rationale (e.g. industry trends, competitive research, and benchmarking analysis).
  • Strong negotiating, influencing and communication skills (written and oral) to influence all levels of the organization through the presentation of insight based on sound investigation practices.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills that facilitate a positive and effective team environment at all levels of the organization.
  • High credibility with the Bank's senior management team and with business line and other functional area management teams.
