Department Overview:

The Bank has embedded sustainability and environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations into the fabric of TD, and in turn, has embedded ESG professionals within its various lines of business. The ESG function for Business Banking resides in the Fund My Business (FMB) journey. The focus of FMB is to deliver competitive lending solutions, with speed, to meet our customers' credit needs.
Job Description:

This position helps to support execution of Business Banking's sustainability strategy and associated ESG deliverables, pursuant to TD's broader, enterprise sustainability strategy. You will develop or possess expertise in environmental, decarbonization and social lending (sustainable finance). You exercise sound judgment, take initiative and have strong relationship management and problem-solving skills. You value constructive feedback and are willing to get results. You are comfortable facing challenges and working with ambiguity, and adapt your approach to a changing workplace and market dynamic. You have strong and effective communications skills with a relentless growth mindset and ability to persuade, present, and influence positively.

Responsibilities include:

  • act as sustainable finance subject matter expert and resource for Business Bankers
  • contribute to industry and government strategy discussions around sustainability
  • identify and manage risks (market, credit, operational and regulatory) associated with sustainable finance in Business Banking
  • understand and draft Environmental & Social Risk Policy and operationalize policy changes (including contributing to any required training for Business Bankers)
  • contribute to ongoing industry / competitive analysis to ensure Business Banking is poised to be competitive and win in the marketplace
  • develop relationships with other sustainability professionals in the Bank to provide feedback, analyze impacts on Business Banking, and embed enterprise initiatives into our processes
  • develop written / presentation materials for uses including (a) sustainability strategy, training and education; (b) senior management / executive updates; (c) sustainable finance client or industry events; and (d) employee communications
  • review and validate Business Banking sustainability data and output
  • prepare Business Banking sustainability content to support Business Banking's and TD's sustainability strategy, reporting and commitments
  • ensure effective policies and processes are established to maintain risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite
  • collaborate with Governance and Control and help BB ESG lead on items such as Heightened Review Activities, Environmental & Social (E&S) watchlist, and environmental, social and reputational risk
  • perform analysis and support for development and launch of potential new sustainable finance products
  • assist with business-as-usual (BAU) priorities underlying BB's sustainability strategy
  • participate fully as a member of the team, supporting a positive work environment that promotes service to the business, quality, innovation and teamwork assisting the team in contributing to the achievement and delivery of Fund My Business Journey's Objectives and Key Results (OKRs)
  • keep team informed on progress of workflow and relevant information about day-to-day activities
  • act as a brand ambassador for your business area/function and TD, internally and/or externally

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • Highly seasoned professional role requiring substantial knowledge / expertise, with ability to integrate knowledge of Business Banking into sustainable finance
  • 7+ years relevant professional experience
  • Undergraduate degree in a business / finance related field
  • Relationship management and credit experience in TD Business Banking (Commercial)
  • Background in Sustainability and/or TD Securities beneficial but not required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to ability to translate complex and technical concepts into digestible content.
  • Strong research, mathematical and statistical analysis skills
  • Proven ability to solve problems, leading efforts to partnering with others to develop new solutions
  • Demonstrated advanced use of Excel, PowerPoint and other MS Office applications
  • Excellent multi-tasking, organizational and time management abilities
  • Adept at prioritizing and managing competing priorities, and escalating issues effectively
  • Able to work independently, as well as collaboratively within a team, and with professionals across the enterprise
  • Can collect, organize, analyze and disseminate information with attention to detail and accuracy
