POSITION: Facility Education Coordinator (RN) LOCATION: Yarmouth, NS TYPE:
Temporary Full Time (Approx. 15 months)
Villa Saint-Joseph du Lac, located in Yarmouth NS, is home to 79 long-term care Residents. We are a
provincially funded, non-profit organization that provides 24/7 care. Villa Saint-Joseph has a
strong interprofessional team and a new facility (opened in 2015) which allows us to promote a
safe, clean, home-like environment for our Resident and care partners.
Position Scope:
To coordinate and direct an Education Developmental Program that will ensure all staff and
residents have an opportunity to develop their abilities according to the mission of the Villa and
to comply with the provincial and federal acts, regulations and standards while working as a
multidisciplinary team member in our long-term care setting under the supervision of the
Administrator.
Responsibilities:
• Demonstrates knowledge of the nursing home's philosophy and mission and conducts her/her work
according to the nursing home's policies and procedures
• Assists in orientation of new personnel and provides facility orientation prior to start date
when possible
• Assess the needs of staff members and departments and coordinate the in-service programs for all
employees of the Villa through liaison with all departmental managers
• Responsible for advertising of workshops, community educational events and encourage
participation of staff members
• Works in liaison with Occupational Health and Safety Committee to organize appropriate safety
in-services for all departments
• Keep appropriate records and documentation of the in-service department activities
• Keep up to date with new methods and information by reading journals and pertinent literature and
making this available to staff
• Develop and maintain good public relations with the community at large in an effort to bring
guest speakers to the Villa and attend community events and educational sessions at other
facilities
• Keeping policy binders updated for each department
• Develop and maintain good interpersonal skills and utilize those skills in work with residents,
staff, families, volunteers, visitors and other community members
• Respect for the present and future policies of the organization
• Maintain professional status through continuing education
• Maintain own professional and personal development
• Relief coverage of IPAC as needed
Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing and currently registered with NSCN
• Complete background check from the RCMP obtained at the applicant's expense
• Experience in management, possession of a Management Skills Course preferred
• Strong knowledge of the Health Care System
• Strong management, communication and interpersonal skills
• Excellent previous work record
• Bilingualism is an asset
