Responsibilities

What you will be doing…

  • Liaise with our Indigenous community partners to foster strong relationships.
  • Assist in the development of research proposals and budgets to support our projects.
  • Interact with funding agencies, conduct surveys, and organize tours of the lab to showcase our work.
  • Develop expertise in river research and geomatics technology for fish habitat studies.
  • Install, operate, and process data from our multibeam echo-sounding and navigation equipment (Reason T-20 and R2Sonics, and WaveMaster navigation system).
  • Utilize advanced knowledge in GIS, GNSS, and remote sensing to process various types of data and operate a range of field equipment available at NSCC's Applied Geomatics Research Group (AGRG).
  • Apply knowledge and experience in processing topo-bathymetric lidar.
Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a diploma in a related field or discipline specific to the nature of the research (i.e., Geomatics).
  • You have a minimum of two years (full-time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in a research environment, which includes fieldwork.
  • An undergraduate degree in Science, specifically, in the areas of Earth, Environmental Science, or similar would be considered an asset.
  • Occupational experience that includes GIS, GNSS, and remote sensing, as well as research of rivers and fish habitat studies, would be considered an asset.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, email, Reason T-20 and R2Sonics, and Wavemaster navigation system, GIS software, ArcGIS Pro, and programming in Python.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to advance your work.
  • You have experience in the collection of field data, including water level sensors, and processing LAS lidar data (topo and topo-bathymetric lidar).
  • You have experience processing topo-bathymetric lidar.
  • You have experience conducting fieldwork, analyzing data in the office, and report writing.
