Job Summary
The Manager of Clinical Trials is responsible for the oversight of all clinical research within NL Health Services and provides supervision and technical direction to a team of highly specialized research nurse coordinators and analysts. The manager collaborates with physician researchers and oversees the execution of all research contracts and data sharing agreements on which NL Health Services is a party. The Manager liaises frequently with Eastern Health legal counsel, Memorial University, the Health Research Ethics Authority (HREA), study sponsors and Health Canada to ensure all research activities are appropriately approved and monitored on an ongoing basis. Assurance of regulatory compliance and patient safety are key aspects of this role. Additionally, budgetary oversight and financial sustainability of the clinical research division are accountabilities in this role.
Job Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's Degree in a health-related discipline is required, preferably clinical is required.
A related master's degree is preferred.
Experience
A minimum of five (5) years clinical research experience within the last seven (7) is required.
Management experience is required including experience in budget planning and financial management.
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
Knowledge of Health Canada requirements for clinical research.
Knowledge of sponsor monitoring processes and regulatory compliance.
Knowledge of trial budgeting and contract execution.
Ability to provide guidance on handling of adverse events.
Conversant in data management and security.
Knowledge of all aspects of research including research design, practices and ethical guidelines.
