Who we are
The Department of Indigenous Affairs oversees a whole-of-government approach to Indigenous relations and is responsible for the coordination of all the provinceâ??s initiatives with First Nations. It is the main point of contact and represents the interests of the province in multilateral initiatives and negotiations. The department also leads the consultation process with First Nations and provides research, analysis, and policy advice to government on matters involving Indigenous peoples.
What you will do
As a part of the Department of Indigenous Affairs team, the Indigenous Navigator will work with Indigenous peoples, community members, tribal councils, businesses, employers and community partners to navigate access to programs and services. The Indigenous Navigator will act as a resource and point of contact between First Nations communities, other partners and GNB. The position will ensure Indigenous clients as well as other partners who require these services are well supported in navigating government systems.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Provide navigational support to Indigenous clients and communities, community partners, businesses, employers, and non-governmental organizations.
- Develop broad knowledge and understanding of programs and services available at federal, provincial and community levels.
- Possess and maintain a strong awareness of Indigenous community resources.
- Facilitate and coordinate requests from GNB departments for Indigenous inclusion and engagement.
- Work alongside community partners and internal colleagues to support understanding and awareness of cultural safety and racism.
- Adapt to and work effectively within a variety of diverse situations, and with diverse individuals or groups.
- Support the Director of the Indigenous Awareness and Community Support Branch in carrying out the branchâ??s responsibilities and mandate.
Need to have
Essential Qualifications:
Bachelorâ??s degree in business, social sciences, or related program and a minimum of one (1) year recent related experience working with Indigenous communities including:
- Demonstrated knowledge of two-eyed seeing and Indigenous ways of knowing
- Demonstrated knowledge of local Indigenous peoplesâ?? demographics, languages, cultures, customs, and traditions.
- Demonstrated cultural competence and understanding of cultural safety.
- Ability to foster trusting relationships.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability.

Salary:
Pay Band 4 - $57,616 to $80,574 per annum
