The Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE) is growing and operates 136 schools serving more than 59,000 students and employing over 11,000 teachers and support staff. The HRCE shares a geographic boundary with the Halifax Regional Municipality with schools located throughout the region serving urban, suburban and rural populations. The HRCE works in partnership with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD) to provide programming and services from pre-primary to grade 12. The regional centre strives to address current and emerging student needs and has developed a Regional Student Success Plan to address these needs.
HRCE is searching for a Director, Program and System Services - Elementary Achievement.
The Director is responsible for the overall leadership and the day-to-day management of school operations and the delivery of the Public School Programs (PSP) from implementation to evaluation, with a focus on student achievement and well-being. The Director will lead a large team of professionals to sustain a broad range of supports and services to schools and ensure the delivery of quality programs and services for students consistent with legislation and policies. The Director is accountable for the effective leadership, student achievement, strategic direction, budget management, and policy and procedure development for the Program and System Services Department. The Director has responsibility for all academic achievement results; the identification and allocation of school staffing and resources; identification and selection of school leaders through effective staff development and evaluation; guiding and supporting schools and School Advisory Councils in continuous school improvement; establishing effective communication links with education partners and school communities. The Director will also provide oversight to the Pre-Primary Program, HRCE's school lunch program, before and after school programs and all school based Health Promotion programs. The Director reports directly to the Regional Executive Director.
The ideal candidate will have outstanding communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships, both internally and externally, to achieve HRCE's goals. They will have a strong understanding of system level issues relevant to HRCE, and the ability to use this knowledge in decision making and large scale and system wide budget planning and preparation. This position is classified on the Education Entities Non-Union Compensation Framework at Band 17 with an annual range between $151,715 - $189,644 effective August 1, 2025.
