Position Description
GoGold is currently looking for a Corporate Controller to join our team on a permanent basis, based in Halifax. The Corporate Controller will report to the Director of Finance and perform accounting, financial reporting and analysis, internal control, and budgeting functions of the organization. The position will also include the management and development of the accounting team in Mexico, by providing expert technical knowledge, effective leadership and strong interpersonal and communication skills. This position will be based in the corporate office in Halifax, with periodic travel to Mexico.
Responsibilities
- Complete all required accounting functions for Canadian operations in a timely manner
- Provide oversight of accounting and financial functions for Mexican operations
- Prepare consolidated financial statements for the entity
- Responsible for the maintenance of the general ledger
- Work closely with external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audit.
- Responsible for internal control program including the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of processes, policies and procedures.
- Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
- Direct and coordinate company financial planning and budget management functions.
- Monitor and analyze monthly, quarterly and annual operating results against budget.
- Prepare financial analysis for contract negotiations and product investment decisions.
- Ensure compliance with local and international regulatory reporting requirements.
- Designs, coordinates or assists in a wide variety of accounting and statistical data and reports.
- Recommend and calculate benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance of divisions and departments.
- Oversee daily operations of the finance/accounting department.
- Manage the preparation of financial outlooks and financial forecasts.
- Ensure compliance with local and international regulatory reporting requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Traits
- CPA with minimum 5 years of relevant education and experience.
- Familiar with IFRS accounting standards for public companies
- Flexible, tolerant, committed and capable of working within a multinational and multicultural team.
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills, with particular emphasis on planning, working to tight deadlines, providing training, facilitating capacity building and supervising team activities.
- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent written, verbal and communication skills.
- Experience in designing and implementing accounting processes, systems, and controls.
- Excellent collaboration and relationship-building skills.
- Strong communication skills, with ability to communicate at all levels in the organization.
- Budget and report writing experience.
- Self motivated / self sufficient when given tasks.
Desired skills, but not required:
- Spanish fluency.
- Experience with SAP.
