Medavie Health Services New Brunswick (MHSNB) is currently looking for registered paramedics and emergency medical technicians currently employed by ANB to work as a Respirator Fit Testing Technician throughout the province of New Brunswick.

Reporting to the Health & Safety Consultant, the Respirator Fit Testing Technician will be responsible to provide Fit Testing services to EM/ANB Inc. employees in the areas throughout the Province. As a contractor of MHSNB, you are accountable to our employees by participating in and supporting all Respiratory Testing initiatives, as well as acting in a manner that fosters a culture that focuses on a safe workplace.

Accountability :

The Respirator Fit Testing Technician will work under the direction from the Health and Safety Consultant , and act in partnership with all facets of operations. The incumbent will positively communicate company safety philosophy and Respiratory Protection policy and fit respirators to staff who are at risk to exposure to know airborne or unknown pathogens so that there is a shared realization of the company's goals in the area of operations.

Key to this role will be the establishment of a safety culture, building employees' capabilities and employee development through the ongoing fit testing process.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the EM/ANB Inc. and MHSNB by providing Fit Testing Services .
  • Perform fit testing at various sites throughout the province for new staff and every two years for current staff who use the respirators.
  • Ensures the user has obtained a Respiratory Protection Program Policy for review.
  • Answers any questions or concerns about respirator use, care, donning and doffing of the respirator.
  • Ensures the equipment is properly maintained and operational as per training
  • Ensures supplies are kept up to date
  • Manages fit testing schedules, assuring the attendance record and assessment forms are sent to , Employee Health and Safety Consultant.
  • Arranges transport or transports equipment to scheduled fit testing site as per pre-determined schedule.
  • Prepares fit testing process including the equipment set-up and take down.
  • Participate in employee Health and Safety activities.
  • Promote EM/ANB Inc. and MHSNB policy compliance.
  • Support the Fit Testing process by working closely with the Health and Safety Consultant..
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality customer service while interacting with employees and the public.
  • Travel will be required.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Employee Health and Safety Consultant .

Special Training

Information and/or training will be provided for the following:

Knoweldge of the respirators used within EM/ANB Inc. e.g. their care, use, limitations etc.

Understand the role within the Respiratory Protection Program

Be trained on how to perform a fit test by the Health and Safety Consultant or their designate. Reference to the Operations of AccuFit 9000 Service Manual.

Work with the Health and Safety Consultant for one fit testing session to ensure fit testing proficiency;

Required Qualifications :

  • Minimum of three (3) years progressive work experience as a Paramedic or Emergency Medical Technician, including service with ANB.
  • Minimum of one (1) year in a leadership role and/or experience providing training and education.
  • Must be an active Paramedic or Emergency Medical Technician in good standing registered with the Paramedic Association of New Brunswick.
  • Must have a valid New Brunswick Class 4 driver's license with an excellent driving record.
  • Bilingualism would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, and Excel) would be considered an asset.
  • Must have excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work efficiently as a team member and possess strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and without close supervision.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
