Software Architect

The Opportunity:

At Medavie, the Software Architect plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of our software solutions. Imagine being at the forefront of innovation, designing and developing software that meets our clients' diverse business requirements. As a Software Architect, you will collaborate closely with our dynamic development team to ensure our products are not only scalable and maintainable but also secure and robust.

Working hand-in-hand with the Enterprise Architects and other technical service teams, you will be the driving force behind major technical decisions and the overall design of our software. Your expertise will be crucial in identifying and documenting the architecturally significant aspects of the system, including requirements, design, implementation, and deployment views. You will provide the rationale for these decisions, balancing the concerns of various stakeholders, mitigating technical risks, and ensuring that decisions are effectively communicated, validated, and adhered to.

As a Software Architect, you will be a generalist, possessing a broad knowledge of many technologies to support your wide-ranging technical decisions. Your role will be integral to our mission of delivering high-quality, innovative solutions that drive our business forward.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with stakeholders to capture business requirements, define architectural specifications, and support detailed technical specifications.
  • Create architectural designs that align with business goals and technology strategy. Evaluate and recommend technologies that meet project needs and propose reviews to peers, managers, and technical review boards.
  • Analyze problem/project requirements and provide direction for the overall design and architecture of software solutions. Estimate the effort required to produce appropriate solutions for projects of varying sizes.
  • Support development team transition from requirements to detailed design, resolving technical issues in design transition. Enhance existing code and implement new features based on project planning and requirements.
  • Remove technical roadblocks encountered by the team to progress the delivery of deliverables. Implement POCs to provide examples for the development team or make proposals to management.
  • Advise, collaborate and negotiate on problems, investigate defects, troubleshoot, and propose appropriate solutions or lead sessions to find solutions. Participate in code reviews to ensure high-quality code and continuous learning.
  • Provide supervision, leadership, mentorship, coaching, and guidance to team members, ensuring all follow the direction provided. Respond to industry trends, keep the product roadmap up to date, and anticipate obstacles.

Experience & Qualifications:

Education: University degree or community college diploma in Computer Science or a similar program.

Experience:

  • 7+ years of progressive design and development work
  • Experience with Oracle databases including database administration, database monitoring and troubleshooting query performance, query optimization, etc.
  • Experience with Oracle Exadata infrastructure an asset
  • Experience in DevOps practices
  • Exceptional technical skills crossing a broad range of applied technology
  • Experience with PL/SQL
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as App Dynamics and OEM is an asset
  • Customer oriented and focused on delivering high value innovative solutions
  • A problem-solving mindset and decision making skills, leading the recommendations to implement appropriate improvements
  • Strong collaboration skills demonstrated through the ability to work effectively with non-technical stakeholders as well as technical teams such as business, DBAs, quality control analysts and security experts, as examples
  • Lead, mentor, and guide less experienced team member in best practices
  • Language: Proficiency in English (written & spoken) required; Bilingual ( English & French) is an asset.

Security Clearance Requirement: In conjunction with our contract with the Federal Government, you will be required to have Reliability Status Clearance (Enhanced Level B). This includes Fingerprinting, Criminal Record Check, Credit Check and you must have resided in Canada for at least 5 years and hold Permanent Resident or Citizenship Status.
