The Director of Global Institutional Product Solutions is a leadership/key contributor role reporting directly to the Head of Global Institutional Strategy. This hybrid role covers all aspects of Global Institutional Product including product strategy, product management, product research, and portfolio solutions. The role works across Scotia GAM and all underlying brands/boutiques and investment capabilities (i.e. public listed/privates) to create a unified global institutional product footprint across Canada and all Global markets which Scotia resides.
This role covers institutional investment solutions/structures including separate accounts, collective vehicles, LPs, mutual funds, ETFs, and offering memorandum structure and will work in close collaboration with and within the broader Scotia GAM Product Development and Innovation team process framework
Is this role right for you? In this role your accountabilities will include:
- Lead contributor / SME for product strategy development for Global Institutional business with strong collaboration/idea sharing advanced across other (Retail, Wealth, Bank, International) channels. Includes evaluation of both in-house investment management expertise across Scotia GAM, as well build-out, lift out or acquisition of best-in class capabilities
- Formulate product road maps which detail product demand, design, pricing, and supporting elements, while being mindful of distribution framework and client needs.
- Requires close collaboration across Investment Management, Distribution, Marketing, Operations, Legal, Compliance, Product Development & Innovation etc. in both leadership and key contributor capacities
- Perform detailed market research - have an ability to size a market, formulate a pricing strategy and understand the key competitors in each segment
- Develop positioning to increase, maintain or improve a product's sales and marketing performance
- Collaborate to develop product training and sales/marketing materials
- Drive thinking on how to maximize margin and improve product profitability
- Responsible for business case development and other approval documentation
- Management and maintenance of institutional product databases and data vendor relationships
- Demonstrate superior project management skills
- Work in a cross functional environment: possess a working knowledge of finance, operations, compliance, and product management/marketing
- Key stakeholder for product launch from ideation to market with skillful navigation of the launch cycle:
- Pre-launch: Uncover market needs, assess channel readiness, create or collaborate on business case (manufacturing costs and pay back analysis) and product requirements/metric documents
- During planning/launch: Collaborate as stakeholder within established Scotia GAM Development/Launch process. Effectively monitor and manage launch vs. short/long term objectives, overcome short/long term technical issues
- Post launch: Act as a subject matter expert for sales/relationship partners and conduct post launch analysis
- Work directly with Marketing/Distribution to develop standard and custom presentations
- Present in conjunction with Distribution to Clients / Prospects across all relevant Institutional capabilities
Education and Experience:
- 10-15 years of financial service experience
- MBA or equivalent graduate degree
- CFA designation
- Proficiency with Excel, Powerpoint, Power BI, project management tools; Morningstar Direct, Preqin, eVestment, and Bloomberg is helpful

- Persuasive verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to build credibility and trust with colleagues and clients and communicate ideas effectively
- Strong strategic thinking, results-focused competencies and relationship management skills, both internally and externally
- Formative presentation and marketing skills
