Definition of Work:The Social Worker I is a specialized clinical position that provides mental health, addictions, and concurrent treatment services to individuals and/or family members. The successful candidate provides comprehensive assessment, treatment, and follow up services in the context of an integrated mental health and addictions team process. The Social Worker I provides referral and follow up for clients to out-side agencies both within and outside of the province; provides necessary liaison pertaining to treatment planning; consults with other professionals and community groups regarding programming and treatment issues; supports self-help as well as, consumer and caregiver initiatives. This position will provide case management services through a Flexible Assertive Community Treatment approach to care and travel throughout the region will be required.
The Social Worker I will also provide weekly Doorways and counselling services to clients. The successful candidate will provide preventative services based on a population health approach.
The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.
Incumbent must have access to a personal vehicle as significant travel is required.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Social Work Degree.
• Current registration with NLCSW.
• 2 years current experience (within the last 5 years) in an addictions and/or mental health setting.
• Demonstrated knowledge of best Practice Standards, as it relates to assessment, treatment, planning, counselling and evaluation.
• Demonstrated ability in case management principles, skill assessment, interviewing and crisis intervention techniques, social work programming and delivery methods.
• Demonstrated analytical, as well as, oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated independence, initiative and ability to work with others.
• A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class IV drivers license.
• Use of a private vehicle.
• Consistent demonstration of the core values of NL Health Services: Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence (I CARE)
• Satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
• A satisfactory certificate of conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
Preferred qualifications:
• A Master’s Degree in Social Work.
