Not only is the department responsible for managing over 18,000 kilometers of provincial highways, it also manages the planning, design and construction of hospitals, schools and other government buildings.

What you will do

Reporting to the Highway Maintenance Superintendent, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following responsibilities:

  • Supervision of the division crew.
  • Maintaining public relations with the community.
  • Overseeing operation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Providing effective summer and winter maintenance of highways in accordance with the Department of Transportation and Infrastructureâ??s policies and guidelines.

Work environment

  • Office location: St. Stephen
  • Work occasionally on holidays, weekends, shift and/or variable hours.
  • Work in adverse road and weather conditions.
  • We promote a scent-reduced environment.

Who you are

Essential qualifications

Highway Supervisor II:

  • Diploma from a recognized two (2) year civil engineering technology program in a related field; and a minimum of three (3) years of winter maintenance or winter and summer maintenance work experience which includes one (1) year of supervisory experience
  • OR high school graduation or GED; and six (6) years of winter maintenance or winter and summer maintenance work experience which includes (1) year of supervisory experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Possession of a valid New Brunswick Class 5 driverâ??s license.

If there are no applicants with the above essential qualifications, we may consider applicants with the following qualifications and appoint at a lower classification.

Highway Supervisor I:

  • Diploma from a recognized two (2) year civil engineering technology program in a related field; and one (1) year of related work experience which includes one (1) year of supervisory experience
  • OR high school graduation or GED; and four (4) years of winter maintenance work or winter and summer maintenance work experience which includes one (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Possession of a valid New Brunswick Class 5 driverâ??s license.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability.

Asset Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate recent road construction and/or road maintenance experience. Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

SALARY:

Highway Supervisor II: $2,346.00 to $2,947.00 bi-weekly (based on a 40-hour work week).

Highway Supervisor I: $2,135.00.00 to $2,686.00 bi-weekly (based on a 40-hour work week).
