The opportunity:
The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development is seeking an individual to join the Finance and Services Division as a Director working in the Fredericton Office.

What you will do:
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister of the Corporate Services Division, the Director of Finance and Services will be responsible for directing the financial and administrative support services of a large department.

Duties include the development of the department and school district budgets, the design and implementation of accounting and administrative support systems, the development of provincial policies, standardized coding, control and reporting systems, financial evaluations, accounting, financial management reporting and coordination of financial initiatives with central government agencies.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide advice to the Senior Management of the Department in all financial and accounting matters pertaining to the public-school system.

The key responsibilities of the position are:

  • Development of the department and school district budgets.
  • Design and implementation of accounting and administrative support systems.
  • Development of provincial policies, standardized coding, control and reporting systems, financial evaluations, accounting, financial management reporting and coordination of financial initiatives with central government agencies.
  • Budget monitoring.
  • Year-end reports.
  • Main Estimates and Public Accounts preparation.
  • Staff leadership.

Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:

Required Competencies:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (Business Administration, Commerce, Economics).
  • A recognized accounting designation.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years progressively responsible financial management experience including at least three (3) years of supervisory experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability.

Wage:
Pay Band 9 - $120,666 to $132,782 annually.

Work environment:

  • Office location: 250 King Street, Fredericton, N.B.
  • Standard hours of work: Monday to Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
