The Opportunity
We are currently seeking an Instrumentation Technologist to join our Instrumentation Department in Port Colborne, Ontario. This is a permanent on-site position.
As an Instrumentation Technologist you will ensure the reliability of production equipment by safely and competently performing various tasks such as inspecting, troubleshooting, testing, installing, replacing, repairing, cleaning, and calibrating instrumentation components and accessories. They work with equipment like level, pressure, temperature, flow, pH, ORP, turbidity, conductivity, toxic gas analyzers, video surveillance, air compressors, PLCs, control valves, public address systems, and more. Their role also involves electrical circuit diagnosis, updating schematic diagrams and P&IDs, technical procedures, control loop tuning, and writing technical reports.
Additionally, in this position, you will:
- Safety Priority: Analyze and mitigate risks to yourself, others, and production.
- Effective Communication: Coordinate with the operations team to ensure awareness and safety during ongoing work.
- Preventative Maintenance: Execute daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance tasks on various equipment.
- Technical Proficiency: Read and create P&IDs, blueprints, electrical schematics, and manuals for diagnosing and repairing equipment.
- System Upgrades: Install and upgrade systems to keep plant systems up to date and ensure spare parts availability.
- Equipment Management: Repair, maintain, and upgrade gas sensors, meters, electronic and pneumatic devices, communication systems, and production camera systems.
About You
Education:
- Instrumentation and Control Technician (447A) and or Red seal accreditation is preferred.
- College Technician or Technology Diploma in Instrumentation or college Technology Diploma in the Electrical/Electronics discipline with Instrumentation and/or Automation specialty.
- Industrial or Construction Electrician License.
- Gas Technician Certification.
Experience:
- Experience working with PLCs or other types of programming.
- Strong mechanical and automation background.
- PLC or DCS background.
Skills:
- Knowledge of Ontario Electrical Safety Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and all other applicable legislation required.
- Concern for Health, Safety, and Environment.
- Accuracy, able to perform work quickly, safely, and accurately.
- Teamwork and co-operation, able to work well in a team both as a leader and as a team member.
