The Department of Health is seeking an individual to join the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health as a Manager/Epidemiologist in Fredericton. Reporting to the Chief Epidemiologist, the successful candidate will lead the Applied Epidemiology unit within the Epidemiology & Surveillance Branch and will be responsible for providing technical expert advice and recommendations on disease surveillance, research, investigation of outbreaks, and other related issues (e.g., preparing public health alerts).
As the Manager/Epidemiologist, you will use a population health approach for disease surveillance to:
- Analyze and report disease surveillance system information internally as well as to external partners;
- Monitor trends and patterns of chronic and communicable diseases, comparing and contrasting with national and international information;
- Manage employees in the Surveillance unit, ensuring proper orientation, alignment of work, and guidance while supporting a healthy workplace that promotes retention and opportunities for growth;
- Lead Public Health projects from the proposal stage to full implementation and evaluation;
- Develop and evaluate existing disease surveillance systems, including the identification of necessary revisions ;
- Oversee database development, management, analysis, and research;
- Represent the Department of Health on Federal/Provincial/Territorial committees and working groups;
- Collaborate with other branches, other divisions of the Department of Health, the Regional Health Authorities, and external agencies, as required.

Essential Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Epidemiology and a minimum of two (2) years of related experience, which includes at least one (1) year of experience managing employees.
OR
- Master's Degree in Public Health supplemented with additional training in Epidemiology and a minimum of two (2) years of related experience, which include at least one (1) year of experience managing employees.
- Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability on your application.

In the event that this competition poses difficulties in recruiting a qualified candidate, a covering off appointment at a lower level may be made. In that case, candidates with less than the required related years of experience may also be considered.
Asset Qualifications: Preference may be given to candidates that possess one or more of the following asset qualifications:
- Experience in the use of the statistical software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R).
- Experience with database design, implementation, analysis (passive and active), and visualization.
- Experience in knowledge translation activities (i.e., writing reports, presentations, etc.).
- Experience in outbreak investigation and management.
Candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications, in addition to the essential qualifications, in order to be given further consideration.

Salary: $109,642 to $123,500 per annum (Pay Band 8)
