Emergency Medical Care Inc. (EMC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Medavie Health Services (MHS) that manages and operates ground ambulance, air medical transport and the medical communications operations in Nova Scotia through a performance-based contract with the provincial government's Emergency Health Services (EHS) Operations division and the Department of Health and Wellness. As well, EMC operates TeleHealth/811 medical communications for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for the Department of Health.

We access all communities in Nova Scotia in a timely and efficient manner with our fleet of more than 180 ambulances and support vehicles operating out of 60+ stations. We respond to 165,000+ calls annually across the province, which are actively managed through the EHS Operations Medical Communications Centre, the hub of all emergency (911) and non-emergency (hospital transfers) medical calls.

The EHS Operations LifeFlight program provides even greater accessibility by responding to patients on scene or through inter-facility transports by our critical care team via helicopter, fixed wing, or ground ambulance.

In addition, paramedics in Nova Scotia participate in various programs both urban and rural such as community-based paramedic programs, collaborative emergency centres, and emergency preparedness and special operations, to name a few.

Policy Analyst - EHS LifeFlight: This is a six-month term position with possibility of extension

Reporting to the Manager Clinical and Quality EHS LifeFlight, the role of Policy Analyst is crucial in shaping, implementing, coordinating, and assessing policies and procedures within EHS LifeFlight, a division within the Emergency Medical Care (EMC) system. This role advances EMC's strategic objectives while also ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and accreditation requirements.

The Policy Analyst provides expert policy support, analysis, and recommendations aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery, patient safety, and overall organizational performance.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Policy Development and Analysis:

  • Lead the creation, review, and revision of LifeFlight policies, procedures, and guidelines. Lead the drafting and revision of LifeFlight policies, procedures, and guidelines, utilizing input from internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure centralized, and up-to-date access to all LifeFlight policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Conduct research to identify best practices and emerging trends in healthcare policy. Ensure alignment of policies with legal requirements, accreditation standards, and EMC's strategic plan.

Accreditation:

  • Act as the policy lead for LifeFlight CAMTS accreditation. Monitor compliance risks related to accreditation standards and update LifeFlight policies and processes to mitigate those risks.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Facilitate sessions with internal stakeholders for the development or enhancement of LifeFlight policy.
  • Provide support to all EMC staff on LifeFlight policy interpretation and implementation.

Reporting and Analytics:

  • Monitor and evaluate the impact or risks of existing policies, providing reports and dashboards to LifeFlight leadership.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Master's degree in health policy, public administration or related field a strong asset.
  • At least 5 years of experience in professional work experience in policy analysis or development including any combination of process improvement, project management, and/or accreditation is preferred.
  • Knowledge of healthcare legislation, regulations and best practices.
  • Certificate in policy development, contract management, project management, or other similar credentials.
  • Exceptional writing skills, with a proven ability to produce clear, concise, and persuasive documents; impeccable grammar and formatting are essential.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with a strong ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Computer literacy is required, including an understanding of Microsoft Office applications. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to work comfortably with Senior leadership
