(Two Year Contractual Position)
DUTIES
Reporting to the Head, Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures, the Manager of Academic Programs will provide academic support for all undergraduate programs in the unit. Duties include providing academic advice to the department's undergraduate students, including majors and minors; being the first point of contact for the department's undergraduate students; placing incoming students in the appropriate French language course; evaluating and issuing prerequisite waivers and permissions for course changes and registration for first- and second-year students, and for other years upon request; assisting in the credit transfer process; promoting and overseeing departmental exchange programs (except for Frecker); organizing conversation class timetables and staffing for all programs; participating as a member of the Departmental Undergraduate Studies Committees and Departmental Council; assisting in calendar and regulation changes; using the Banner Student Administration System to analyze trends and make recommendations regarding enrollment, retention, and admissions; using Excel or Access to generate reports and perform statistical or data analysis; working with the unit to take advantage of and promote external funding opportunities; promoting our programs by preparing materials for and participating in HSS Welcome events, high school visits, and other outreach activities; liaising with the Academic Advising Center; liaising with the Blundon Centre on questions of academic integrity regarding accommodations for language learners; monitoring the accuracy of program information on various outlets (website, pamphlets, brochures, advising); participating in program review and development activities; consulting on first year course timetables and PCI appointments; and performing other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (3- 5 years) in managing university level French programs; completion of a master's degree in French is required; or an equivalent combination of experience and training will be considered. The successful applicant will have a demonstrated understanding of university French undergraduate programs and calendar regulations; excellent writing, oral communication, and presentation skills in French and English, including excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills; and a demonstrated ability to work well in a team and individual setting. The candidate is expected to demonstrate adaptability in a constantly changing environment that requires ongoing re-evaluation of priorities and a proven history of sound judgement and initiative. Familiarity with teaching French in the NL K-12 system, along with experience teaching university level French courses, and 3-5 years of experience in a university administrative setting, would be assets.
SALARY $67,414 - $91,929 per annum (Management and Professional)
