The Policy, Strategic Planning and Project Management Office Division at the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development is seeking for an individual to join the Internal Audit Team in a position as Senior Internal Auditor.
What you will do:
The successful candidate will be responsible to lead the Internal Audit and Quality Assurance unit which supports management in ensuring policies, processes and controls are aligned with the corporate objectives by safeguarding assets, identifying and managing risks that could inhibit management from accomplishing their strategic priorities. The unit also provides assurance regarding effectiveness of controls, compliance with regulatory requirements and, when appropriate, recommendations are provided for improvement, in relation to the management of programs and resources.
Key responsibility areas within the unit include ensuring:
- Manage an internal auditor and the work of the unit.
- Inherent and emerging risks are proactively identified and managed.
- Non-compliance issues are reduced.
- Financial and operational information provided to senior management is accurate and relevant.
- Assets and resources are acquired and utilized in accordance with mandates obtained from the Minister.
- Assets are safeguarded to prevent or minimize loss or fraud, and procedures are in place to proactively identify and detect fraud.
- Programs, activities and operations are performed in accordance with the principles of economy, efficiency and effectiveness.
- Perform audits as required.
- Establish and maintain positive and professional relations with stakeholders.
The scope of responsibility for this unit spans across EECD, Part II as well as external third-party entities (i.e. Early learning and childcare facilities).

Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:
Required Competencies:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, or a related area.
- Minimum of five (5) years of related work experience in the field of accounting, auditing or risk management.
- Completion of an accredited program leading to a Professional Accounting or Auditing Designation (CA, CGA, CMA, CPA, CIA, CISA).
- Internal audit experience.
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability.
Applicants must clearly demonstrate the essential qualifications to be given further consideration. Please ensure that preferred language for assessment is identified on your resume.
Nice to have:
- Experience in Project management.
- Experience with data analytics.

Wage:
Pay Band 5 - $65,936 – $92,092 annually.
Work environment:
- Office location: Place 2000, 250 King Street, Fredericton.
- Travel to school districts, schools or early learning childcare facilities may be required depending on the nature of the audits.
- Possibility of remote work within New Brunswick.
- Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15-4:30.
