ABOUT THE OFFICE
The Office of the Ombud for New Brunswick is seeking to hire two postsecondary students in the role of Information and Research Officer.
The Ombud is an independent officer of the Legislative Assembly, who assists people and public sector organizations with their concerns by conducting impartial investigations, making recommendations, and providing guidance to ensure people are treated in a consistent, fair, and reasonable manner and that their rights to information and privacy are protected. The Ombud can investigate complaints involving provincial government departments and other public sector organizations, as well as organizations that may hold personal health information.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Under the direction of their supervisors, the successful candidates could be required to perform a variety of tasks involving the work conducted by the Office of the Ombud. Assignments may include:
- Interacting with the public to receive, triage and assess complaints received to determine jurisdiction to investigate complaints and obtaining additional information if necessary
- Conducting research on topics of interest to the Office of the Ombud
- Reviewing policies, procedures, legislation, case law and related records
- Organizing and analyzing data
- Preparing informational materials on the Office's various mandates
- Assisting with special projects or any other task assigned by their supervisors.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must:
- Be enrolled as a full-time student in a post-secondary education institution
- Have excellent written and spoken competence in English and/or French
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
Preference may be given to applicants who demonstrate one or more of the following:
- Experience in conducting legal research
- Experience working in an environment requiring confidentiality of information
- Experience in analyzing information and drawing conclusions to solve problems effectively
- Experience in communicating complex information to a variety of audiences, verbally and in writing
SELECTION CRITERIA
As part of the selection process, candidates will be assessed on the following:
- Effective listening and interviewing skills
- Effective time management and organizational skills
- Attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment
- Ability to conduct research
- Ability to communicate information effectively using various methods
EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION
- Location: Ombud NB offices located in Fredericton or Dieppe.
- Salary: $18.91 per hour.
- Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:15-4:30.
- Duration: May to August 2025 (specific dates to be determined with successful candidates).
