Who we are:
The Village historique acadien is an open-air museum consisting of a 2.2 km trail, lined with some forty historical buildings, all animated by costumed interpreters who present the daily life of the Acadians from 1770 to 1949.

Since it opened in 1977, the Village offers many Acadian cultural experiences for the whole family. Ever evolving, this popular tourist site now has five restaurants and snack bars, one hotel as well as two boutiques. In full operation from June to September, the Village employs close to 200 people during the high tourist season.

What you will do:
As a member of the Village historique acadien team, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Providing relevant interpretation in period costume to visitors on the daily life of our ancestors in both official languages
  • Demonstrating a period trade or craft, for example: shingle making, cooper, tinsmith, sawmill, traditional cooking, bread making, wool and linen working, etc.
  • Interacting with visitors and answering questions

Who you are:

Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:

Required Competencies:

  • Completion of grade 10
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related work experience
  • Knowledge of and/or ability to demonstrate period and obsolete craft practices, tools, methods and materials
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered

Written and spoken competence in English and spoken competence in French is required. Please state your language capability.

Applicants must clearly demonstrate the essential qualifications to be given further consideration. Please ensure that preferred language for assessment is identified on your resume.

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge of a specific craft or trade
  • Experience in a client service environment.
  • Able to work in a team.
  • Interactive communication skills

Résumés should be in chronological order specifying education and employment in months and years including part-time and full-time employment.

Wage:
$26.12 per hour

Work environment:

  • Dressing in historical costume
  • Ability to work in high heat conditions
  • Hours of work are ten (10) hours per day, one week at 30 hours and the next at 40 hours. This schedule, as well as offering days off during the week, ensures one out of two weekends off.
  • Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. during the season
