Overview

As a market-facing Manager in our Global Trade practice, you will oversee multiple concurrent client projects while leading our team to deliver exceptional work products. Your role will involve developing and implementing strategies to manage duty costs through the effective use of free trade agreements, special programs, and transactional structuring. Additionally, you will proactively address global trade risks, enhance international trade compliance, and boost the operational efficiency of supply chains. Collaborating with our global trade colleagues across various countries and regions, you will provide tailored advice that aligns with client needs.

Key responsibilities of the role include

  • Actively identifying companies that require global trade assistance and building new client relationships through external outreach and internal EY resources.
  • Generating revenue from both new and existing clients.
  • Providing expert advice on global trade while collaborating with our network of dedicated global trade professionals.
  • Staying updated on global customs developments and applying this knowledge to client situations effectively.
  • Leading and managing client projects, ensuring appropriate delegation of tasks to team members.
  • Innovating and developing new service offerings that provide added value to our clients.
  • Finding more efficient and effective ways to deliver existing services.
  • Focusing on the development of people and talent by mentoring junior staff and setting challenging goals.

To qualify for the role you must have

  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, international business, or a related field. Candidates with a Customs broker license will also be considered.
  • A master's degree or JD is an asset.
  • 6 or more years of relevant work experience gained in any of the following
    • a professional services firm
    • a Fortune 500 company
    • a major importer
  • Experience with the Canada Border Services Agency is a plus.
  • Strong technical knowledge of global customs, import, and export topics, including valuation, classification, country of origin, and free trade agreements.
  • Proven ability to proactively engage clients and deliver high-quality project outcomes.
  • Demonstrated project management abilities, along with excellent organizational skills, and a positive attitude.
  • A willingness to travel; the travel percentage will depend on location, skill set, and specific projects.
  • This role will interact with external clients plus internal colleagues and stakeholders across Canada, therefore fluency in English is required. French – English bilingualism is an asset.

Ideally, you'll also have

  • A Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation or pursuing
  • Language skills in addition to English
  • Experience in trade automation, global trade management systems, and data analytics tools
