Team Lead, Energy Marketing Analytics

The Team Lead, Energy Market Analytics, is the single point accountable for the planning, implementation, and oversight of Hydro Energy Marketing's analytics program. The analytics program provides the mission-critical support and market intelligence for: Hydro's current and emerging 24/7 trading programs; advancing the development of new products and markets; and, directing Hydro's congestion risk mitigation portfolio.
The Team Lead, Energy Market Analytics, is responsible for designing and expanding the analytics programs to support the optimization of additional storage, energy, capacity, and transmission assets that come with the development of Muskrat Falls and associated transmission interconnections. The Team Lead, Energy Market Analytics, will be the single point accountable for Energy Marketing's coordination with [Hydro Production Planning] and System Operations to deliver power to markets in a safe, efficient, and profitable manner.
The incumbent will initiate the gathering, modeling, and analysis of detailed technical market intelligence on production, demand, transportation, prices, weather, economic, and other fundamental indicators in the North Eastern electricity and North American natural gas markets and use this information to design and implement: forecasts; market views; back tests; validations; and other solutions as required to maximize the value of Hydro's trading portfolio and mitigate its risks. The incumbent will use their knowledge of energy markets to build and test models and strategies that will influence the optimization of the corporation's energy, transmission, and storage assets over daily-, weekly-, monthly-, yearly-, and multiyear-time horizons.
The Team Lead will provide effective technical leadership in a constantly changing environment and work effectively in a team setting; interacting with market professionals, peers, and management. The Team Lead is also responsible for defining, prioritizing, and delegating work within the Energy Markets Analytics team, as well as performance management and employee development duties.
Qualifications:
The incumbent has a university degree with a strong focus in engineering, economics, or related quantitative discipline. The incumbent must also demonstrate strong analytical, problem solving, organizational, and communication skills. Completion of graduate studies is also preferred. Experience leading a multi-disciplinary team in an energy marketing/analytical organization, and extensive experience in, and understanding of, power systems and markets in multiple jurisdictions, and of various electricity-related products is preferred.8 years experience working in a power, gas, or oil analytics/trading/marketing environment is required.
