Job Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to apply advanced clinical knowledge and skills in the treatment of referred clients for the Mental Health and Addictions program for the Burin Peninsula FACT team. The successful candidate uses extensive knowledge and skills gained through experiences in Occupational Therapy, Recovery and Psychosocial Rehabilitation principles, to assist clients in meeting their goals. The Occupational Therapist will work as a member of an interdisciplinary team in the Mental Health and Addictions Program. This position practices using the FACT Team model of Case Management and will work with other FACT team members in providing education and in-service in best practice approaches. This position practices using a recovery model of case management based on the Flexible Assertive Community Treatment model and receives support on the model from the clinical supervisor in case management.

The Clinical Occupational Therapist II will maintain an active clinical caseload, providing individual and group interventions to address barriers to meaningful occupational participation including assisting clients to link with community resources. The successful applicant will work with local organizations to develop opportunities for client participation in the community. The Clinical OT II will provide mentorship to staff and complete other duties as assigned. The OT will be responsible to precept Occupational Therapy students and offer other clinical education experience to students within NL Health Services.

This position works with considerable independence and receives clinical support and mentoring from the Occupational Therapist III in the Mental Health and Addictions program. This position reports to the Program Manager for the Community Mental Health and Addictions Team and maintains accountability to the Professional Practice Consultant for Occupational Therapy for integrity and professional practice issues.

Job Demands

Regularly stands and walks when performing clinic activities and may drive to and from sites/homes within the region.
Regularly sits to perform administrative functions, observe or counsel clients. May also work in awkward or cramped positions at times.
Fine/finger precision work is required when working on the computer or using tools to adjust or repair equipment.
Hand tools are used to make adjustments on equipment and may require rapid physical movement and reflexes, as well as controlled movement. Gross motor skills and the use of heavy equipment are required when working with clients in performing therapeutic activities, or to move equipment.

Job Qualifications
Graduate of a school or program of occupational therapy recognized by the board.
Current licensure with the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Therapy Board.
A minimum of three years of experience within the last five working as a Clinical Occupational Therapist in adult mental health /addictions is required.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, with interprofessional team members, patients/residents/clients and their families in a one-to-one and group environment.
Demonstrated effective written communication skills required for client documentation, report writing and professional communications
Demonstrated ability to effectively translate and communicate knowledge in the specialized area of occupational therapy practice to others.
Proven supervisory and leadership skills.
Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and train Clinical Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapist Support Workers and students.
Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as a member of an interprofessional team.
Proven ability to assume professional responsibility for safe, ethical and effective practice.
Proven ability to manage multiple practice settings.
A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 Driver's License and the use of a private vehicle are conditions of employment.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
