Job Summary
The primary responsibility of this position is to provide clinical social work services in the Critical Care Program to HSC MSICU and outreach to SCM MSICU. This position is unique in the province, providing highly specialized services in a tertiary care center to medical, and surgical critically ill patients and their families in both units. The incumbent functions autonomously and uses a high degree of independent judgment and highly specialized skills. Specific duties and responsibilities include psychosocial assessments, crisis intervention, grief and bereavement counseling, patient and family counseling and crisis incident stress debriefing. This position requires critical thinking, independent decision-making and requires clinical judgment of a highly responsible nature.
This position reports to the Division Manager of the Critical Care Program (MSICU) and maintains accountability to the Professional Practice Consultant for Social Work for integrity and professional practice issues.

Job Qualifications
Graduation with an accredited Bachelor of Social Work Degree is required.
Current and continuing registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers (NLCSW) is required.
Knowledge of relevant legislation, including but not limited to, Mental Health Care and Treatment Act, Adult Protection Act, Advanced Health Care Directives Act, Medical Assistance in Dying, and the Children, Youth and Families Act.
Knowledge of community resources, systems and programs.
Demonstrated ability to direct, supervise and mentor students.
Demonstrated clinical skills in assessment and interventions with individuals, families and groups.
Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, decision-making and organizational skills.
Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to deliver/facilitate effective presentations.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional environment, and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Demonstrated ability to work independently
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
