In this role on the People and Culture team, the incumbent will support all our Ontario branches encompassing approximately 4,000 employees
Responsibilities:
  • Interpret provisions of the Collective Agreement and other employment legislation; assist to ensure compliance of relevant legislations, policies, procedures, standards and Collective Agreement.
  • Provide advice and consultation on employee relation matters; work in collaboration with managers conducting workplace investigation as needed.
  • Assist the managers with the grievance procedures; take minutes during grievance meetings; coordinate meetings with respective members; adhere to timelines in the collective agreement
  • Represent and support management in grievances proceedings such as mediations, arbitrations, Human Rights Tribunals, and Labour Board processes.
  • Assist in creating grievance files, gather and maintain required information for each grievance and provide files for review to People & Culture Management and Senior Management.
  • Communicate with the union locals in a diplomatic and professional manner
  • Review employment correspondence such as, discipline and termination letters
  • Support managers and employees on their roles and responsibilities to comply with company policies and legislations governing: Health and Safety, Workplace Accidents, Human Rights Discrimination and Attendance management.
  • Maintain knowledge of Employment legislation
  • Track grievances, investigations and other metrics as required to provide key Employee Labour Relations statistics for standard reporting.
  • Conduct training sessions of various workshops and training sessions for Labour Relation education.
  • May need to travel to different branches.
Qualifications:
  • 2-4 years labour relations experience in union and non-union environment within a large organization;
  • Experience in contract interpretation, grievance administration/disputes resolutions and tribunal experience;
  • Ability to think and act strategically;
  • The skills necessary to negotiate and influence diverse stakeholders regarding challenging organizational issues;

  • Ability to identify, understand, and meet/exceed the requirements of diverse internal and external customers; excellent problem-solving, decision-making and time management skills;
  • Comfortable with tight timelines and high volume;
  • Ability to be a self-starter
  • Have a degree in Human Resources, Labour Relations or related field;
  • CHRP or CHRL designation is an asset.
