Reporting to the Manager of Mental Health and Addictions, the primary purpose of this position is to provide specialized mental health and addiction services to individuals, families and groups, including screening, assessment, counselling, education, referral, and advocacy. The incumbent works within a multidisciplinary team setting, and in addition to clinical services, works with other team members to develop and deliver health promotion and other educational sessions in the community.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Social Work;
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in assessment and counselling preferred;
- Experience in mental health and/or addictions, including individual, family and group counselling;
- Experience in crisis intervention and the ability to respond to the emergent needs of clients.
- Knowledge and experience in the areas of health promotion/prevention and the development and delivery of education and training programs;
- Strong analytical, facilitation, written and oral communication skills;
- Certificate of Conduct
- Eligibility for registration with the NLCSW;
- Valid driver’s license.
Duties: (Included but not limited to)
- Provide intake/screening, assessment, counseling, treatment and therapeutic planning;
- Coordinate referrals based on assessment of clients’ needs;
- Conduct comprehensive interviews with individuals and families to assess the nature and extent of problem areas;
- Facilitates individual treatment plans through consultation with client(s), family members and other service providers;
- Provides single-session therapy as per Doorways model of care, as well as in-depth counselling based on the assessed level of client need;
- Provide direct counselling to clients and families, based on assessed needs and goals;
- Locate, arrange and coordinate services and resources, in consultation with other service providers, based on assessed client needs;
- Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary team in the development, implementation and evaluation of services;
- Develop and deliver education, prevention and awareness initiatives;
- Utilize the principles and practices of Continuous Quality Improvement in service and program delivery;
- Adhere to Practice Standards and Code of Ethics, including all relevant Legislation, and departmental and organizational policies;
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including clinical documentation using CRMS;
- Maintain workload statistics, and other departmental and organizational reports;
- As a member of the Regional Mental Health and Addiction Services Team, provides support to other members of the interdisciplinary team, which may include providing coverage and/or travelling to various parts of the Region to assist with service delivery;
- Perform other related duties as required.
