ANIMAL FACILITIES TECHNICIAN (BAND 3)
Animal Care and Veterinary Resources
(Contractual Position to March 31, 2026)


DUTIES

Reporting to the Facilities Coordinator, the Animal Facilities Technician performs a wide variety of support tasks within Animal Care and Veterinary Resources. The successful applicant will be responsible for the daily supervision of cage wash technicians ensuring standards are met through full adherence to SOPs as well as backup in the role in the event of employee absence; enhanced sterilization and cleaning of specialized laboratory equipment and procedure areas; logistical planning and carrying out the transportation of animals, equipment and supplies; assisting the Facilities Coordinator in documenting, identifying, and planning inventory requirements; acting as a procurement officer and assisting the Facilities Coordinator in the sourcing of equipment, materials, and supplies; and serving in the critical functions of the Facilities Coordinator during absences; as well as other related duties.


QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (1+ years) working in a CCAC approved laboratory animal science facility; graduation from an accredited post-secondary institution with a diploma from a laboratory sciences or medical device reprocessing program; considerable experience in the maintenance, operation, and sterilization techniques of mechanical devices, equipment, and surgical supplies specifically within the research laboratory field; ability to write, follow, and effectively communicate standard operating procedures; one to three years experience in a procurement related role; familiarity with the Newfoundland and Labrador Public Procurement Act is an asset; ability to identify and plan appropriate inventory levels with considerable experience doing so in a fast paced, high demand environment; ability to lift 40 pounds in an ergonomically correct way, routinely; valid Class 05 drivers licence required with clean driving abstract


SALARY $47,057 - $55,196 per annum (CUPE Local 1615)
